Is this tile slippery when wet?

Asked by: Amana
No, it’s a matte tile. Would not recommend for a shower tile but it’s fine on the floor of a bathroom. FYI it scratches easily, not meant for a high traffic area.

What size tile edge is required for this tile?

Asked by: Anah
I just used 1/2”.  That was using mega lite mortar and a 1/2” notch trowel. These tile are 1/4” thick.

When is it better to offset tiles?

Asked by: barman
The TCNA (Tile Council of North America) states that tiles over 15 inches should be offset by no more than 1/3 to avoid a "basketweave" effect. You cannot offset long tiles 50/50 as it places the lowest ends of the tile right beside the crown or highest part of the tile, which will create lippage. A stacked pattern is a very clean and modern look, complented with a grout color similar to the tile color. Offset tiles also require a slightly larger grout joint which can also make the floor look more dated when a staggered pattern is used.

What is the recommended colour of grout for this tile

Asked by: Tracey
I used a light gray, I think called silver, and it looks really good.

Can I use sanded grout with this tile, or will it scratch the surface?

Asked by: barman
We used sanded grout and no scratching of the surface. Note that for sanded grout, the gap needs to be more than 1/8inch, and you need to apply a sealer.

What is the recommended spacing for this tile? Can 1/16 be used?

Asked by: Adam
1/16" grout joints can only be used with rectified tile and stone where the sizing has been machined to a specific size. For calibrated tiles, use a 3/16" grout joint and no more than a 1/3 offset when installing to avoid any lippage issues.

Some tiles are listed to be installed with mortar and other with thinset. What is the difference and does it mater? My research indicates that mortar vs. thinset is more dependent on the location and type of install and what is under the tile.

Asked by: Ryan
Thinset is a different "recipe" of mortar that allows it to be applied thinly in an installation. It is short for thin setting mortar which is a modified mortar product made specifically for tile.
