Rated 2 out of 5 by from Included spline is too thick I could not fit the included spline into the track, even after stretching it to make it thinner. I went to a glass shop and asked for smaller spline, I was told they only had one size, .016” same as the kit. I showed him the spline that came with the kit and he said it was garbage and impossible to use. He sold me his .016” spline and it is a completely different material - thinner foam spline rather than thick rubber. It is identical to the spline I removed from my door. The thick rubber spline that comes in the kit is too thick to install. Glass specialist says the spline he provided is the only spline he has ever used in every frame for securing screens. It worked for me as well, install was fairly easy once I had the correct spline.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from How to USE this tool First time installing a screen. I was installing a pet-resistant screen which some reviewer found difficult to install. I wanted to leave some tips that might benefit for fast and easy installation. 1) Don't use the old rubber spline, it's much harder to re-install because it loses its elasticity with time. Buy new rubber spline, it's inexpensive. 2) Don't try to push the rubber in with one go, gentle pressure while rolling back and forward, all the while pulling the rubber slightly with the other hand (keeping it stretched a bit reduces the diameter and makes it easier to go in, keep the rubber taut during installation). 3) Fasten the screen at the corners with two inches of rubber spline, before you install the final rubber, it will keep it from kinking and its position changing. Once your rubber spline installation reaches the corner, just remove the temporary rubber holding the screen. Following these steps, I was able to install the screen from start to finish in 15 minutes.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from screen size inconsistent I needed a 36x84" screen so this looked like a great deal. The kit includes everything you need, screen, spline, roller. However, I purchased two screen kitsand each screen was cut to a different size. The first was only 82" long, the second was 83.75" . I wouldn't recommend this kit if f you have an 84" screen door as there seems to be some inconsistencies in the product. If you need a smaller size, it might work well for you.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Screen is too thick to install in channel. Buyer beware. I wasted $50 on this screen. The screen is so much thicker than regular screen, I could not get the 0.14 inch spline into the channel to hold the screen (and yes, I used the spline rolling tool). I ended up scrapping this one; had no problem installing regular grade screen. If it requires a smaller diameter spline to install, it should be included, or at least mentioned in the installation instructions. The spline I used was the smallest diameter spline I could buy at retail.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rolled and easy to install! Bought this today! I previously used kits that have folded screens and this one blows it out of the water. No wrinkles to deal with, comes with spline and tool (not the best tool but does the job if you dont have a better one). Removed old screen and new one installed within 45 minutes total time. Definitely recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved me $120 and a weeks wait Got a quote from a ‘pro’ with a weeks wait to get it done. This $20 package has everything needed. Most difficult part was getting the screen off the tracks as the 4 rollers are spring-loaded so some fiddling was required to get the screen off(some super dexterous guy might attempt doing the replacement with the screen still on the tracks). One thing to note when using the spline roller tool is that the wheels are different width to accomodate different size splines, so use the correct one and the whole job is done within an hour and half- cleanup time included( I took a little longer as I took the opportunity with the screen off the tracks to do some routine maintenance and the reinstallation onto the tracks was a little fiddly for my 73 yr old fingers)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like a brand new door I bought this to re-screen a patio door for my daughter. She thought she would have to buy a whole new door! With the video instructions, and making some adjustments for what seemed to work better for me, it turned out beautifully. Like another reviewing, slow and steady is the way to go. I set the spline slowly the first go around with the concave wheel on the tool, and then rolled again with the convex side, being sure it was forced in the groove. I was worried about a slack screen and wavy installation but it's almost self-tightening with the spline. Very satisfying project, and a great price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keeps the bugs out, easy to install Considered other "instant screen doors" but was put off by the velcro attachment. Didn't seem too secure, plus it would look untidy when the screen comes down in winter. This cost a bit more but addresses those issues. I didn't used the included tension rod, as I had a curtain rod available.

Can you use this for your floor heat vents?

Asked by: Diane
The purpose is I am getting new grates because the ones I have are in need of change due to the people who owned my house before me bought really bad ones like dollar store ones and so I am replacing them and wanted to know if I could use this for underneath the grates to catch anything that may fall in. I had some kind of mesh at my old house and don't know what it was made of and I liked that idea.

Would this work on a sliding glass door? If it was suspended between the frame and the door that doesn’t move?

Asked by: UncleRay
I don't see why it wouldn't? Buy the size that fits the smaller patio door frame. =) The tensor bar works just like a shower curtain rod.

In a household with small children, am I better to go with the Fiberglass or the Aluminum screen repair kit?

Asked by: Trixie
I have two young boys, dog and two cats who are all extremely active and rowdy. The fiberglass is definitely better.

what temp range can this screen handle? hoping to use it in a terrarium and have a ceramic ambient temp heater above it and dont want it to burn, melt, or catch fire.

Asked by: noah s
I would go with Aluminum to be safe, this seems like it's nylon or some type of synthetic.

How do the sides stay taut? Is there velcro to attach to the door frame or is it weighted somehow?

Asked by: CanadaMamaD
Hello CanadaMamaD, and thank you for your question. This screen is supported at the top by an adjustable, sturdy, spring-loaded rod. The screen is weighted and magnetically shuts to ensure it hangs straight and secure against intruding insects. Fits most types of single doors: right or left mount, inswing or outswing. Thank you!

What is the sizeof the spline in this kit?

Asked by: Hozz
using my vernier calipers I measured approx. .140 dia. I believe I needed .125 dia. spline as it was somewhat difficult to roll into the groove.
