Rated 4 out of 5 by from Honest product. Build to last. No bells and whistles but a very steady and reliable product. The plastic components are minimal. It's doing the job and asking for more. Great value/quality ratio. You won't be disappointed. Go for it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product at a good price I bought this on sale recently, largely because it was very well reviewed on the Internet by a number of websites. (Top choice in its category.) Add in the drop in price at Home Depot and it was an easy choice. I have now used it extensively since the purchase. It isn't fancy but is, rather, a simple, no frills saw that does what is supposed to do extremely well. It's easy to set up accurate bevel or mitre cuts and for my purposes, it has lots of power. As a senior citizen who has to move and set up the saw every time I use it, its comparatively light weight is important to me. As far as I can tell, it is well made, as I would expect from a Makita product. Another plus - it is easy to operate left handed. One odd little detail that is not worth docking a star: as far as I can tell, the vertical vise does not extend down far enough to clamp a 1" (3/4" in reality) piece of stock when setting up a cut. It's easy to add a block as a work around but it seems odd to have to use a work around for what is the most common dimension of wood that I and surely lots of other folks need to cut!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice mitre saw. I bought the saw for DIY projects in my house. Used it for vinyl floors, baseboards, built a gazebo, etc. Didn't find any negative issues. Nice cuts. Like it.

Does it come with side supports for cutting longer pieces of wood? Just bought one today and does not have them...

Asked by: Bebe
Indeed, no wide supports. It would be convenient.

how accurate is this saw?

Asked by: Bobr
Review from WoodworkBoss.com, regarding accuracy: Accuracy... This is a non-sliding 10 inch miter saw, and although a non-sliding miter saw can be somewhat limited with cutting capacity, there’s also a notable upside when it comes to accuracy. Sliding miter saws are more challenging to manufacture while also maintaining rock solid precision and accuracy. There’s a lot of moving parts, and a sliding arm which moves the spinning blade further from the arms mounting point makes for an inherently less stable saw. This instability can lead to blade deflection, which of course has an awful impact on the accuracy of any miter saw. But this isn’t something you need to worry about with a non-sliding miter saw, such as the Makita LS1040 in this review. The non-sliding arm makes for rock solid stability, and you get the reliable accuracy that comes with having a solid base. The base of a miter saw is also very important when it comes to accuracy. It’s easy to imagine how a base that’s uneven or unstable could destroy the accuracy of a miter saw. This is what holds your work piece firmly in place while making cuts.. An uneven base would be like a house with faulty foundations. That’s why I’m glad to say that the Makita sports a precision-machined aluminium base – perfectly flat and smooth, ensuring reliable accuracy. When it comes to accuracy, part of it comes down to the machine being used and the other part comes down to the user. Makita also includes a few neat features to help with user-related accuracy, in the form of fantastic miter and bevel adjustment settings, and a great fence.
