Rated 5 out of 5 by from Phenomenal Drill This is one of my favorite drills. One thing to keep in mind, when this says it's high torque, it's really high torque. This is about 3x the torque of normal Makita drills, almost providing the same torque an impact driver can achieve, but with just straight motor torque, no impact hammers. It absolutely will snap most drill bits if they bind, and it will twist your arm off on large hole saws if they catch. The handle is definitely there for a reason. For many tasks this is overkill, and a lighter duty drill may be more appropriate. I've beat the heck out of mine, even using it to mix concrete, with no ill effects. As with most powerdrills, you MUST be mindful of heat. The fastest way to wreck most Makita drills is to overheat it. If she's getting toasty, let it run at no load for a bit or put it aside.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It broke on me after 3 and a half weeks. I hate to give 1 star as i own all makita tools and never had a problem before this. i was drilling heavy gauge metal without abusing the drill, just slow and steady - and as expected the safety feature would catch on. however after 5 - 10 minutes more the drill just stopped working and that was that. thankfully it was still before 90 days and home depot replaced it with ease! prior to the tool breaking, however, the performance was phenomenal. that said, what good is the tool if it breaks with normal use? hopefully it was just a defective unit, and the replacement drill will last much much longer!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not as described on Home Depot website Purchased what I thought was the Makita LXT Brushless Hammer Combi Drill DHP481Z, but received the DHP486Z instead. I was wanting the battery meter that is built in the 481z but sadly missing on the 486z as my 4 hour batteries don't have a meter on them. The 486z is also slightly shorter and lighter than the 481z and has a shorter side handle. It's a very powerful drill and extremely well balanced in the hand (just put a carbide tipped 3 inch hole saw through a 2X4 on speed 2 and it didn't slow down at all. Let's see if it lasts as long as my 15 year old Makita LXT combi drill/driver. The reason for 4 stars is because of the lack of the battery meter and the fact that Home Depot hasn't updated it's website to indicate the change of product even though their item number is the same.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 2 months of light use, broke on first tough task Used lightly for 2 months and then broke using a 4 inch hole saw. Has to borrow my co-worker's Milwaukee to finish the hole. It also killed my brand new 4ah battery that it was paired with. Extremely disappointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well Nice drill but doesn’t seem as powerful as my previous non brushless version. This one stops often while trying to drill bigger holes.

Is it 1096 in lbs of torque or 750?

Asked by: Mattek
These are a misprint. The proper and new model number (which will be shipped) is DHP486Z, with 1155 in lbs of torque. Thank you for the question, the site will be corrected.
