Prestovent is the innovative new register that is different from traditional registers. It is a ceiling, wall or floor register that has very powerful earth magnets embedded on each side. Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good Concept But Falls Down I loved the idea off this vent but the magnets are not strong enough to hold it in place. I installed it one evening in a basement kitchen and the installation was easy but when I came back in to the kitchen the next day I saw that the vent had fallen out and was laying on the floor. This was installed in a brand new Ecco Supply 4x10 end boot so there was no paint or other material that would inhibit the magnet from holding it in place. The magnets are just too weak. I was going to replace 4 other ceiling vents but will now have to use the typical screwed in vents which I was hoping that I wouldn’t have to. I do not recommend this vent.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but could be Better Our current home had ceiling vents installed in the basement and the drywallers did not ensure that the venting metal was flush with the ceiling. A vent with magnets attached seemed like an ideal choice to eliminate screws or damage the existing ceiling. After unboxing the new magnetic vents it was obvious they are not made to the same standard as other non magnetic vents. They are about 1" shorter in depth so the magnets barely grip the ductwork, and dont fit tight to the ceiling. I had to pop rivet metal to the vents to have the magnets something to firmly attach. After that they looked and held to the ceiling firmer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Aggravating eyesore no more Perfect solution for an annoying problem. The old air register was an eye sore and I couldn’t stand it any longer so I had to find a solution. I didn’t see these register when I went into the Home Depot but found them when I was perusing their website. The reviews were great except for the odd reviewer that had issues because their vents were likely damaged or the space the wrong size but mine fit perfectly! They just popped in and stayed. Easy to control the heat flow. One problem solved now onto the next! Highly recommend, give them a try. They will not disappoint! Happy house renovator.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good - Not Great Basic plastic register with magnets. Ensure your 'duct metal' is flush with your drywall, if it's not, the magnets are not powerful enough to securely hold the register in place. You'll need to fill that space with folded tin, etc. My only issue is the fact that when closed to prevent air from coming through, the register 'air blocker slider' could have been better designed. It leaves slight spacing allowing air to continue to come out. (My cheaper plastic floor registers perform this task much better) Overall, I needed them, they did the job, and being pretty much the only option unless you want to screw/stick the register directly do the drywall ceiling which I didn't want to do.

It took me several months trying to find a way to secure a register to a basement ceiling made with drywall and no secure way of drilling skews to keep a register from falling. I got quotes of between $300 to $400 Cdn to install wood to secure a traditional register. Then by luck I found Prestovent online and was excited to see Home Depot Canada carried it. It solved my problem with less than $25 Cdn. The only design detail I would suggest is for the part where the magnet is to be larger or extendable because the space between the drywall and vent was a lil bit larger than the depth of the magnet section. Luckily it still fit my ceiling. Very satisfied customer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointing, don't bother with these. These seem like a great idea, until you try to use them. The magnets are too weak to hold these up to the ceiling ducts. They have a thin, rubbery cover holding the two small magnets into the plastic register, which you can't remove or the magnets will fall out. It's just enough to keep them from sticking to anything. I don't think these are rare earth magnets. I bought two, thanks to paypal I got a refund. Very expensive for such cheaply made junk, sadly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy install The ceiling vents in the basement our old house have been a problem since we moved in twenty years ago because there was not enough wood/framing around the vent to screw into. So the vents have always looked awful. This product is a brilliant solution to the problem. The instal was easy, though on some vents I had to bend the metal to get it closer to the magnet, but that was easy enough to do with pliers. Now as long as the magents hold over time, we'll be good.
