Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Investment I ran a power logger on my old 3000W 50 gallon tank for about 45 days. My new tank is showing about 70% savings in power AND I don't run out of hot water anymore! My basement is also nice and cool now (not so great in the fall and spring) and I am using a duct fan to blow the cool air up into the bedrooms. With my regional rebates I am calculating a payback of less than 8 months (based on cost to upgrade from new regular electric tank) and will save up to $12,0000 over 10 years! (This is based in the Northwest Territories where we pay a small fortune for power @ $0.24/KWH). I also heat with a wood stove which provides a great heat source for the heat pump.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High efficiency water heater The water heater is working flawlessly. A side benefit to the high efficiency and reduced electricity costs is the heat pump generates cool air. Located in our storage room, the heater keeps our storage room cool for storing vegetables, wine, and other foods.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bc Hydro Rebate Accepted I emailed BC hydro Re: rebate issue and received this reply. Apparently now accepted... Thank you for your email. In the past we have had some difficulty getting Home Depot to adjust the invoice to include the model number that would match the application. However, we have now been provided with a resource that will allow us to match their SKU with the Rheem model number.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Need correct Model number for BC hydro rebate I bought a hybrid electric water heater: model # PROPH65T2RH350DC 65 gallon. The invoice from Home Depot showed a different Model number (686974) & BC hydro rebate will only accept the PROPH65T2RH350DC - Home Depot customer service will not deal with this & thus, I am unable to get my BC Hydro rebate.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wrong Model number They are using their own internal part number for this unit, so like the above reviewer stated you cannot get the rebate. Home Depot does not have the ability to write a note or reference on their invoice. So do not order this until they can fix their system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Happy and Great Cost Savings Purchased this to get around the high cost of my high efficiency propane water heater. Unit was delivered in a couple of weeks and was easily installed. Needed a 30 amp service and access to a drain for condensate and water overflow. The unit came complete with good instructions and a flood sensor as well. The unit was easy to program and get on my home WIFI system. It's nice that the software provides energy consumption data that makes it easy to track the unit's performance. It definitely produces cool air so you need to plan for a installation in a room that has some form of heating, especially in colder weather. I just opened up existing air supply ducts (supply and return) in my existing home heat pump heating system. This seems to be working well and is the lowest option for me. Also, as the room gets colder, the unit needs to run more to heat the water. I'm operating my room at about 18C. I purchased the 65 gallon unit so I would have enough hot water to enjoy showers and still be able to heat the water using only the heat pump to get the best operating cost as I did not want to use the in-tank electric heating elements. At this point, with about two weeks of use, I'm very happy. The unit is working well. I'm using about 4.5 to 5 kWhs per day for a family of two adults for an operating cost of $0.80/day verses my propane system that was costing about $3.00 per day, so a nice saving and about a 3 year payback. Would definitely recommend this unit to others using traditional electric or propane systems. Might be hard to make it pay on natural gas.....you would have to do the math.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great water heater so far We bought this 65 gallon hybrid water heater to replace two 40 gallon water heaters. There is only two of us in the house 95 % of the time and we have had it hooked up for 30 days now running on the heat pump mode only according to the app it used 61.8 kilo watts in 30 days.Very happy with it so far for efficiency and quietness.I installed it myself and other than venting it and the drain hook up it’s no different than hooking up a regular heater.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yes it will save you some money Cut our bill right in half at first month, but the foot print is quite large, we got a “super cold basement now”, not bad in the summer time, but it could be terrible in the winter ,lol I’m going to put a freezer right next to it :p

Is this machine labelled as the Rheem PROPH65 T2 RH350. The BC Hydro rebate is only for the Rheem model number

Asked by: Nanaimoheat
The model number is on the tank, the model number in the catalogue is not the same, but get Home Depot to print you out a receipt with the correct model number and you can apply it to BC Hydro Rebate. I had a real difficult time with BC Hydro to actually get the rebate.  Keep all your receipts and submit.  We love the tank, saves money & is quiet.  Plus it is an air conditioner for the hot, summer months.  My hydro bill is 30 % less than last year with this new tank.

Does this hybrid water heater require any special venting or different installation that what is required for a standard typical water heater?

Asked by: MarnieP
I haven’t installed mine yet.  No special venting is required however depends where you’re installing it - if like me in the basement then I believe it’s best to tie the heat pump air outlet into a duct to upstairs otherwise it’ll get much too cool downstairs. The piping is also different than a regular hot water tank as it connects on the side.  Looks like a good solid unit - is it worth the hassle & extra dollars - that’s yet to be determined. I liked the idea that the heat pump unit might take out some of the humid inside house moisture out during winter.

Can the tank lie down on its side for transport?

Asked by: MarnieP
Thank you for asking, MarnieP. Please do not lay any Tank Water Heater on its side, as this may damage internal parts of the water heater. If you have any further questions, please contact us at 1-800-995-0982. Thank you and have a great day.

Rheems hybrid water heaters... 1) If on Heat Pump setting, will electric heaters stay off even if demand is high? 2. I live alone, but sometimes have 4 visitors stay a few days. Would a 50-gal or a 65-gal unit be more economical and practical?

Asked by: Mellie
50 gallon would be best.  It gives you lots of water, it is efficient and will save money down the road.  We got the 65 gallon for the same price as the 50gallon.  They are expensive to install - about $1000.00 l and you will need a drainage line for the condensate from the air conditioner of the heat pump.  BC hydro does offer rebates of up to $1000.00 for the purchase and installation if done by electricians.

Is this tank, the same as the 65 Gallon hybrid tank that is on the Rheem website model # XE65T10HD50U1, that duct work can be added to. Thanks

Asked by: James
Hi James. Thanks for reaching out. The answer is yes. It is the same generation product, and can be ducted for both the intake and the exhaust. Hope this helps. Cheers.

I contacted Efficiency Nova Scotia and they indicated that there is a in-store rebate of $400 for these units. Home Depot are on their list of companies. Can you confirm this is the case and if the rebate can be done over the internet. Kevin
