Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best I could find for my home I did a lot of research to find a hot water tank that lasts longer than the usual ones, is efficient, easy to install and fit in the space I had available. I've downsized from a 50 gal tank to this 30 gal which is sufficient for homes without soaker tubs or other high needs for hot water. I was attracted to the lifetime warranty on the tank. It's the first one my plumber had installed and she said it was easy to install and as it's so light in weight, easy to get in place. I've had it for about a month and I'm very pleased. I'm in the process of selling my home now and it's a selling feature. Less hot water tanks failing after 10 years and going into the waste stream is a big hurrah! If you are thinking of one of these, go for it over a conventional tank.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Marathon 30 review Looks like a rocket or missile. Very easy to handle, moved it from drive way into basement on my own. Easy installation. Comes with 2 - 2ft pieces of pipe insulation. Beware, factory heat settings are nearly high enough to melt the flesh off your hand; setting temps lower is simple, just need to remove two covers and adjust the dials. Also, read the tag on the Pressure Relief Valve before installing or you may find it difficult to read the small text. So far, so good--hot water is flowing the past 6 weeks.

Opted for the titanium heater elements to hopefully make it last beyond my lifetime into the robot age where self aware machines can enjoy worry free hot water.

We’ve Had this tank installed for a month, it was very easy to install and we’ve had plenty of hot water without any odour. Very pleased with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You Get What You Pay For In A Water heater This water heater is of good quality. It is light weight compared to a water heater made of traditional materials. There is piece of mind that a burst won't occur due to the polymer construction (provided the tank doesn't freeze with water inside, such as a cottage installation). I will remind you that it is a "point of use" model: You may need to purchase Rheem's water heater booster if this doesn't provide quite enough warm water. The manual also recommends regular purging the tank so it operates efficiently. I realize this is more money up front. If you think about the cost of water damage due to a burst tank and the cost to replace 2 - 3 water heaters as a home owner, especially when you have 'roots' planted in the community where you live, this is a good sound investment. Please remember safety: That is the use of an anti scalding valve and when required an expansion tank for closed systems.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Don't order if you need it fast. We have acidic ground water that will rust through a regular hot water tank in about 5 years. My tank started to leak badly and it was time to change it out. This Marathon tank solved my major problem of tanks rusting through. Reports are elements burning out but theu are a consumable and seem to last okay amounts of time, the titanium one lasting much better. The website showed in stock and 3-12 days delivery. I live about 300km north of Toronto so shorter time was likely as Amazon can have packages at my door overnight with 2 day delivery. Well this tank is not stocked in a Home Depot warehouse but drop shipped from the manufacturer. They took over a week to put the tank on to a truck and then that truck took another week to get the tank to me. This delivery time could be understandable if the manufacturers warehouse wasn't in Brampton! Seriously 14 days total for delivery less than 300km. Cold water bird baths and notching showers at friend's houses for 2 weeks is not fun at all. Neither is boiling pots of water to do the dishes as the dishwasher is plumbed only into the hot line. On eventual arrival The tank is very easy to install. Took less than 30 min to connect the plumbing to the new pipe configuration thanks to some pex pipe and shark bite fittings. This tank needs 3/4" male NPT fittings to connect both pipes. 90min later after ensuring there were no leaks from the new plumbing, I enjoyed the first hot shower in 2 weeks. I run a tank timer so that my tank only heats during off peak hours. This tank is super well insulated and easilly can keep water hot for days. I am contemplating a mixing valve to boost tank temps but keeping safe temps in the lines as well as increasing the amount of hot water you can get. With the insulation on. this tank it should easilly handle a higher temperature setting and maintain it throughout the day.

Does this water heater have a "Vacation mode"?

Yes, but don't fit it too tight, as you need to attach the in- and outflow pipes, pressure release valves, etc. Installed, the solid pipes in mine came in at around 51".

What exactly does limited lifetime warranty mean?

Thanks for reaching out. Limited lifetime warranty means that the tank itself will not leak due to a manufacturing defect, for as long as the original owner lives in the house. If it does, Rheem will replace the tank. The parts (elements, thermostats, etc.) are warrantied for 6 years against manufacturing defects. If a part fails in this time, Rheem will ship you the new part. Hope this helps.

Hi Gerber and thank you for your question. When the temperature inside the unit drops about 15 degrees below the thermostat set point the unit will turn on to heat the water inside it.

I need to replace my 40 gallon water heater in our mobile home. The marathon 40 gallon is too tall for my installation but the marathon 30 gallon will fit. The only thing I don't understand is what a "point of use" heater is. Please explain

Point of use water heaters are compact water heaters the heat the water as you use it. So the rest of the time it is off. They are super energy efficient and work well for instant heat. As long as you don't have a ton of people using it at the same time. I had one for a 3500 square foot house with 5 people and never had any issues.

Will the 30 gal lifetime tank run more efficient than the 40 gal lifetime tank  if installed n same area for two/ three people.   Will 30 gal unit cool down if not used for 24 hours and run longer to heat up to demand temp

To heat 40 will always take more energy. Our use of the 30 only  uses a full hot tank if filling a large bathtub. We turn off tank if away for a few days but even after a week water is quite warm. Very satisfied with smaller, efficient, unit.
