Rated 2 out of 5 by from great unit, limited life expectancy I've now bought 5 of these brushless units, to date 3 have failed with the clicking mentioned by other buyers and one was just completely dead.. I've contacted Ryobi support and they just tell me to send them in for repair.. at the end of the day they aren't really repairable as the entire motor and gearbox is a single assembly and accounts for about 75 percent of the unit.. it's really a throw away unit when it fails.. non of the units have lasted more than 5 months.. it's been an endless use it until quits and then take it back to home depot for refund and purchase a new one.. I've asked Ryobi a number of times if they're going to improve the gearbox assembly and just get the same comment about sending it in for repair.. it's a great unit when it works and just wish it would last longer

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Overheats and cuts out I wanted this pruner to work like the other Ryobi tools... Cuts the branches with ease, when it's not overheating. I would cut around 10 (1/2 inch) branches then it stops for a few minutes. This happened every 5 minutes with the handle getting warmer each time. I tried different batteries, smaller branches, and slower cuts with the same results. Temperature outside was around 22 Celsius. The safety mechanism is awkward with or without gloves; catching when operating the trigger. Poor design in my opinion. I wanted to add this pruner to the Ryobi toolbox...

I bought these pruners more for my father who suffered a stroke years back and lost some strength in his hands. This tool makes his tree trimming and yard wast cleanups a breeze! And battery almost goes all day with ease. Only thing i suggest is keep the blades and moving parts lubricated. I just use chainsaw bar oil works great. And keep those body parts well away. Squeeze that trigger and there is no going back!

Worked amazingly for about a month then started have intermittent issues of closing then stopping. Opening then stopping. Each time I had to take the battery out and put it back in. Sometimes it would work flawlessly for 5 minutes then go back to the start/stop. This year it just opens an inch then stops. Closes an inch then stops. Useless. Called Ryobi and they only have 1 authorized repair that deals with warranty in all of the GTA. Unacceptable!!

Does it fit in a small hand? Is it easy to operate the safety and the trigger with one hand?

The pruner is designed to be used one handed, there's nothing for the other hand to do. The safety is a little lever that's part of the trigger (it's not a separate button), you could operate it with one finger. As to hand size, the grip is not tiny, but it doesn't need large hands. If you can squeeze a regular Felco (type) hand pruner, you can hold this pruner comfortably.
