Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ryobi does it again I was going to just rent a pole saw from home depot because I figured how often would I be cutting tree limbs. However, after 2 rentals I would already be equal to the cost of the Ryobi pole saw so I decided to buy one instead. This is the first time I've tried a pole chain saw, and I was pleasantly surprised because I did not know what to expect. My thickest limb was maybe 5" and it cut through like a hot knife through butter. It also worked well on skinny branches that I had to lob off. Couple of points though -- buy the chain oil, and fully understand how to tension the chain. At first I was a bit confused on where the tensioning screw was, but found it in the front of the head- phillips head. I checked mine every so often, it does need re-tensioning during your use, and also top ups of the chain oil. Second point, be aware that the head is a bit on the heavy side. I had no problem with it. I actually used the weight to my advantage - I would position the saw where I wanted to cut, let it rest, and turn on the motor. I then let it cut through on the pressure of its own weight -- just hold it firm though cause when it cuts through a limb you dont want it swinging down because you eased up too much. Third point, clean out the head when you store it and pour out the extra oil. You'd be surprised how much gunk ends up under the cover of the head. Just follow the instructions on how to remove it - basically just one nut. Overall, very happy with the product. Made short work of some nasty limbs that were threatening the side of my house.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Oil cap doesn't stay on and chain keeps coming out I bought this a while back. Immediately upon use the oil cap just easily comes out. I had to pick it up a few times from the ground. Also the chain doesn't stay on, always had to take it all apart and put it together after a few cuts. quite unfortunate.. I always have to take it apart after a few cuts and put it back. Not sure why this is. I personally like RYOBI products but this one item is a definite no go. I wouldn't want to buy another Ryobi pole saw. I am not looking for another. .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome chainsaw at heights Just bought this yesterday to clear some brush and small trees on my fence line. Unpacked and it came almost fully assembled. Had to take out 4 rubber protective pieces and screw the sections together. Had to add Chain/Bar oil (not supplied), made sure the chain was tight, checked the tightness on the bar screw... got the extension cord out and was ready to rock (check YouTube videos on this model to see how to do it). This thing cuts like butter, I got to trees and branches up to 4" in diameter so far. It makes quick work of them. Very impressed with this unit. If you have no experience with chain/pole saws, makes sure to watch a YouTube video on these for safety info and overall usage tips. Power tools are no joke, be safe with gloves, safety glasses and make sure you don't fell a branch or tree on your head. There is a art to it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't saw this coming About 15 minutes into using the saw its chain broke and damaged the housing. There is no heads up that once assembled it can never be dissembled for storage. This made it very inconvenient to return. However the store was gracious to accept the returned saw without hassle. I enjoy using other Ryobi tools, and they are usually very good and dependable - just not this time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Generally a well build machine This saw was purchased in order to trim several overgrown fruit and maple trees. Although the blade is 8", the smaller 6A motor could cut through no more than 4" of hardwood. Not too bad, but certainly not the power of he gas counterpart. However for home use (as long as one keeps up with trimming) it will be more than enough for 'suckers' and smaller trimming projects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product. It does the job I bought this 3 days ago for the purpose of trimming a large tall cedar hedge. I had purchased another electric pole saw for more money, but it was essentially a chain saw on a stick, and was heavy and awkward. I own several Ryobi one plus tools and I’m familiar with the quality. For this tool I decided on a corded model. Some reviewers said they had problems with assembly, but the instructions were easy to follow and the tool is labeled. The only issue is that the instructions talk about an oval handle, while the unit has a hex shaped handle. This might confuse some people. The saw is light weight and easy to use, fast cutting and uses very little oil. It cut through 4 & 5 inch branches like butter. The slight angle of the blade allows you to rest on on the branch while it cuts, using the weight of the head to make the job easier. This is a well made light weight and well balanced tool, and does the job as advertised. I would strongly recommend this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Low Usage and Burned Up I bought this two summers ago to do light annual pruning. Worked fine but did have issues of leaking when oiling. Made it an oily mess. It has less that 8 hours of use and it burned up today. Just threw it out. Do not buy. Garbage. Will not purchase Ryobi products again. Substandard.
