Rated 1 out of 5 by from 2 strikes-one left before I move on 1st chainsaw worked for 15 min then could not get it going again.....returned to Home Depot 2nd chainsaw worked for a day before chain oiler stopped working.....past time period to return to Home Depot so had to take it to an approved service center 80km away. Been waiting now for over 4 weeks with no end in sight as repair shop says parts are on back-order and Ryobi head office can do nothing to expedite. Chainsaw is gone in season when it is needed 3rd strike is very near if back-ordered parts continue... Saw price and operation is 5Star, unfortunately warranty service/support is -4Star producing an overall rating of 1Star.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Scie à chaîne Ryobi de 14 po à moteur à essence Bonjour.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremely disappointed Saw was tough to start first time but not unexpected on first run. Chain dulled after cutting down 4 cedar stumps roughly 8" diameter. I sharpened the chain and tried again. 3 stumps later and won't cut anymore. Sharpened the chain and would not start anymore. Not even a pop. Priming bulb would not prime the carb. Took it back to home depot and returned it. Bought an echo instead and it is great. The only ryobi product I have that I am actually happy with is my pressure washer though it says powered by honda. The cordless tools I have bought and now this chainsaw are all junk. Never again with ryobi.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent and cheap. Good for light duty work. Great little unit for the price. Started up out of the box with zero trouble. Cuts stuff fine. The "heavy duty case" is a complete joke though. It's more like a plastic sheath used for shipping. I broke a piece of it just unboxing the saw. Is it a high-end saw good for taking down old-growth hardwood or for feeding a wood furnace all winter long? Of course not. But it is a nice compact saw small enough to take to cut some firewood and powerful enough deal with the odd tree limb I was going to get a refurbished Poulan from a certain discount auto parts store but I'm glad I went this route instead. The people I know who bought the refurb spend more time fixing it than they do cutting things.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Home Saw ! I've owned this saw for 2 years now (and I bought one for a family member at the same time). So this is an informed review of 2 different saws over a period of 2 years. Power : Running on a 38cc 2 stroke engine gives the saw enough power to handle what it's designed for. With an 18 inch bar and the guard on the end (so really 17 inches). It will effortlessly cut anything 12 inches of less in diameter. Once you get into the 13-16inch range of cut the saw is still capable, but you have to take your time and let it do the work. On the higher end it bogs a bit if struggling, but that applies to any saw when you're cutting 80% of the bar length. Reliability: Each season me (and my brother) who both own the saw don't even really winterize it. Just simply drain the gas in the fall and let it idle and run out on fumes and put it away. Each spring so far with either saw we have just put some fresh gas in and it starts on the first few pulls no problem. In the past 2 years I have felled and cut up almost a dozen (80+ feet) pine trees from my yard. The saw has never let me down or given me any problems. Considering the price point it's at, it's a really great saw for the home owner to have around when needed. Highly recommend. Thoughts concerning negative reviews regarding this saw:. (Having used and experienced 2 of these saws both in the hands of different owners over a good period of time gives me reason to address the negative reviews). Most of the reviews seem to stem from trouble starting/running the saw or the chain going loose. Well, first off. Read the manual. It's a 2 stroke engine, it takes mixed gas. Putting straight gas will ofcourse make it run poorly. Secondly, there is a tensioner and adjustments on the side of the saw to address the chain tension. Yes, it's something you need to check often. Chains stretch and adjust over time. It might not come from the factory perfect. These types of reviews simply make me believe there are people purchasing these saws that have no idea what they're doing. I've owned a few saws over the years (yes, only a few - because I look after them and maintained them) and any time I've encountered either of these issues was due to; poor fuel/lax maintenence (bad plug/fuel filter, etc..) or the chain just needed adjusting. It's a good saw for the homeowner, reliable and strong enough when used right. Don't let uneducated people sway you.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't work out of the box. I bought this chainsaw 2 years ago for my husband's birthday. He tried it out a few times to trim trees in the backyard. It didn't work properly from the beginning, as it bogs out and quits as soon as you hit the throttle, regardless of how long you let it "warm up". (Yes the brake was off). I had run Stihl chainsaws for years as a forest fire fighter, and never had a problem like this. It also feels like the chain sticks, doesn't move freely (yes it's oiled). Earlier this year we took it out of storage, and cleaned the carb, it ran good for about 10 minutes, then had the same problem. As a result I had to use a sawsall to trim 5-6" branches. Disappointing, as I read all the good reviews, I must have bought a dud.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lightweight and Powerful Lightweight but powerful chainsaw. I used it to quickly cut 6-inch thick logs from a large tree branch that snapped and fell in my yard. The only thing is that the throttle needs to be relatively high before the clutch engages and starts turning the chain even though the chain brake is off. The chain brake assembly is a flexible metal band that tightens around the chain sprocket fly wheel when engaged and it is very effective. First time of the day, choke off, engine requires about 5 pulls after priming in temperatures of roughly 23 degrees Celsius, 321 feet above sea level. Once engine has been running, it starts on first pull thereafter; needs 1 foot and 2 hands for proper starting. Automatic chain/bar oil dispenser lubes the chain nicely during operation and chainsaw bottom requires light cleaning of excess oil after use. Dispenser oil flow rate is adjustable. With chain bar nuts removed, side cover pops off easily with chain brake assembly attached for easy clean up after use. Chain should be lightly sharpened after dismembering a tree. Attached safety guard tip is removable for making bore cuts if needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cheap and effective Purchased to help clear trees after storm in ottawa, managed to clear 4 properties in 1 day on 2 tanks of gas, up to nearly 2 foot diameter felled logs. surprisingly easy to use, lacks power of a pro saw but well worth the money for a few jobs. It paid for itself 4 times over in one day, even if it broke it was worth the money. I would try the larger blade length and cc engine in the future if the task arises.

I am interested in purchasing the Ryobi 16 inch chainsaw model RY3716 but I have questions. How long is the warranty and what does it cover? Does it come with a full case or is that an extra cost. I so what is the cost and can I get it with the saw

Asked by: Will
It had a 3 year warranty which covers breakage due to manufacturer defects but not normal usage wear and tear. It includes a full case.

Which premixed fuel would be recommended for this product?

Asked by: André
Hi Andre, Thanks for reaching out to us. All of our 2-cycle gas products require a premixed 2-cycle fuel. You can purchase premixed fuel from The Home Depot or you can mix this yourself. The proper mixture is 40:1. This means for every 40 ounces of gasoline you need to mix 1 ounce of oil. To learn more about this process or our other gas products, please contact 1-800-860-4050. Thanks, RYOBI Canada Team.

Is the safety ‘kickback’ tip removable for plunge cuts or is that frowned on with this little saw?

Asked by: Creel
Hi Creel, Thanks for reaching out to us regarding the 14-inch 37cc 2-Cycle Gas Chainsaw. The SAFE-T-TIP anti-kickback device can be removed when bucking or felling with a wedge to allow the bar to be drawn through the cut, but we do not recommend removing the anti-kickback tip in order to make plunge cuts. For further information, please contact RYOBI Customer Support at 1-800-860-4050. Thanks, RYOBI Canada Team.

Has there been any upgrades to the plastic starter pulley. The plastic teeth seem to wear off pretty fast. The last one I bought only lasted a couple months.
