Rated 3 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for Decent unit but strap doesn’t work well or sit comfortably, multiple pole sections are nice but an extendable pole would be better. Uses chain oil very quickly so users should watch that. No chain sharpener included. Otherwise cuts well and does the job, recommend extended life batteries which adds to owner cost. Best for smaller residential applications, bigger jobs look elsewhere.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power and convenience in nice little pacakge. I bought this last weekend to clean up some lilacs and other trees at the farm and it does the job just perfectly! The convenience of cutting 4-5" branches off without leaving the ground or even reaching deep into the low brush to cut out a large dead branch was just awesome! I was able to buy the "Tool Only" variant as I'm in the Ryobi battery ecosystem already and that makes it a great value proposition. I also had a 40V chainsaw on hand and honestly, even though this tool uses 18V, I didn't feel like I was missing any power at all. Obviously the smaller cutting head is well suited to the 18V system, but it worked very well! This was used with 3AH, 4AH, and 9AH batteries. I never actually ran out of battery after 3-4 hour sessions, I just chose a different "counterweight" based on my mood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works better than expected I bought this pole saw recently because I needed to trim a fairly high willow tree, some of the limbs were up to 6" in diameter. I already owned other Ryobi products (18V) so I thought I would give this a shot. I was amazed at how well it worked, easy to use and quick. It allowed me to safely and easily trim branches 12' off the ground.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional tool for trimming trees and vines My 80-year-old Mom wanted something that she could manage to trim the odd branch that was otherwise out of reach. It's great for reaching into the lower branches of pine and spruce trees without getting poked by the branches. We also discovered that it did a great job on higher branches that would have otherwise required a ladder. A really handy tool and the battery lasted longer than anticipated.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tool, but it leaks I'm a huge Ryobi fan, my garage is filled with bright green power tools, everything from a hand drill to 40V lawnmower. All are 2 thumbs up except this tool. Don't get me wrong, it cuts the way it is supposed to, but it's when you are not using it is the problem. It leaks oil. Stained the floor on my shed, and i swear i was two weeks cleaning the oil off my battery and the long handle, as it ran down the length of the handle and into every crevice in between. It's too bad, such a good tool in my collection!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don’t recommend this Bought this at Home Depot . First time I opened the box, it was clearly an already used and returned item. I exchanged it and got a new one. It worked for 7 mins and stopped working. Took it back to Home Depot and they confirmed it was defective after testing with different batteries, etc. they handed it back to me and told me to take it up with ryobi warranty. Home Depot service and ryobi product quality seem like a match made in heaven. Strongly don’t recommend people buying such a flaky product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light weight, powerful. I have a chainsaw on a pole and found it nearly impossible to use for more than 2-3 branches before my arms were worn out. Found Ryobi had a pole saw and it was cordless! Looked at the specs and it's half the weight of my chainsaw and uses the One+ system which I love. Gave it a try and it's way lighter and very well balanced when using a 4Ah battery. Only minor gripe is the small amount of flex in the pole. Otherwise it cuts branches with ease and I can go hours with it. An excellent buy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well for me. This pole saw is great. It reaches up pretty high. Other ratings say it is heavy but I find it very comfortable. Highly recommended. The only issue is that it did not include any chain saw oil so be sure to buy some first.

Does the saw come off or is the pole permanently fixed? (I need to also do close-in pruning of course)

Asked by: Slickbit
the unit comes in three parts .. you have to use two of them at least .. one piece is a short pole + the saw and the another is a middle post that links to the other two and the last is a short pole with the battery bracket .. so NO you can't take the saw off as a stand-alone tool for close up pruning.. You can as in any system remove chain etc for cleaning or tightening or replacement..

What kind of oil do you use? Does it come with oil ?

Asked by: Hltmom
Just use regular chain oil - it's readily available at HD or any hardware store. It is important that you fill the reservoir prior to each use - it will cut much better if it has oil. You also need to keep the chain sharp - just use a 1/4" round file - it only takes a few minutes but will greatly improve cutting.

I recently purchased this product. Upon first using it with a full charged battery, it operated for about 30 seconds then stopped working. After that it would only operate for a few seconds every minute or so. Should I return it?

Asked by: DMAC
Hi DMAC, Thanks for reaching out to us. This is not a common issue with any of our 18V or 40V cordless options. It seems there could be an internal component that is loose. You can either exchange it for a new one at your local Home Depot store or visit one of our certified service centers for repair. For further information, contact 1-800-860-4050 so we can help you better. Thanks, RYOBI Canada Team.
