Rated 4 out of 5 by from It’s 15 inch wide at base Priced ok but had two issues. First the lid . Trying to get that lid off before the install. I couldn’t get a good enough grip to pull that lid out of the cavity in which it seats . I rotated it , but it wouldn’t come out . Ended up using two flat head screw drivers and prying it out. Now after install that lid just sits on top rather than rotating it back into place . Second issue is whatever size they say this basin is it’s the top measurement. I had originally bought this basin for my battery backup system. That pump is wider ..16” I think. Anyway it wouldn’t fit in the bottom of this basin . I had to use another basin for my backup system. Other than that it’s well made and I like the ports and each side . I think they’re 5”.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's a Sump Basin and Lid The sump basin and lid are identical to those for their sealed version. The only difference is that the seal version comes with additional parts required to seal the sump. If you're just using it for ground water, save your money. The lid is extremely difficult to remove, as there is nothing to hold on to when trying to lift it out of the basin. The large ports on either side are 5" in diameter, so be careful when cutting opening for 4" Big O pipe. Construction is very sturdy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very versatile I cut the bottom off and put it in the top of a 55 gal plastic juice barrel that I cut to fit so I could reach the depth I needed. I fastened it with self tapping stainless screws from the inside and it works perfectly. The lid sits flush with the new patio.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a pit, it works. Sump pit works as expected, I liked the tapered dimensions made fitting for t into the hole in my basement a lot easier than a straight sided pit would have.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Basin is too small I discussed with my general contractor the small size of this product as soon as I saw it in the construction yard. GC said that it was the "only" product available. It looks like this is a builder's product. Wall are slanted and corrugated, which are limiting as to which sump pump model can be installed (our plumber tried to install a pig tail float model but even after jiggering the pipes, he said that it was high risk that float would get stuck on wall). If you're building your custom homes, go with a wider and deeper sump basin (see zoeller and grainger products, not an easy search in Canada). Home Depot would gain from offering larger basin options. A larger basin helps the pump cycle less often, saving energy and chance of burning out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works better than a pail Good product. Would be nice if it had some install instructions for homeowners with no install experience

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It is what it is It is a sump pump basin, It works well for that purpose. Very annoying that it took two weeks to get it sent to my store

what size are the external coupling ports?

Asked by: dan b
Incoming port is 4". Lid ports are for 1.5" for the discharge and vent pipes. The electric cable port has a grommet to fit the opening.

Is the basin big enough to handle a dual pump system like the "Basement Watchdog 1/3 HP Submersible Combination Sump Pump System"?

Asked by: mikie
It would fit, the plumbing would most likely have to be run through one of the off set punch outs instead of the centre of the lid

I assume that the diameter of 18 inches listed in the specifications is the diameter at the top. However, that basin is tapered in its depth of 24 inches. What is the diameter at the bottom of the basin, the exterior of the bottom? thanks

Asked by: Denyse
Outside base diameter is 14 1/2”

Can I use this tank for an Ontario grey water tank ? I expect I would need to put holes in it

Asked by: Larry
The Ontario code requires a sealed sump basin so you need to use the HD SKU 1000745264 which is the same basin but with the sealing kit. You can put small holes in the bottom or in the bottom sides to collect the standing water below the concrete slab of you basement. We suggest holes no larger than 3/8". However, you can use a side flat area to connect a pipe to the basin to receive the water from other collecting point. A submersible sump pump is required in this basin. Note that this is a sump basin not adequate for sewage water coming from a toilet, to be pump to a septic system with a sewage pump.

What is the difference between this one and the one that meets code for Ontario and Quebec? Also if we cannot connect to existing weeping tile system, can we drill holes in it to allow for seepage? Size recommendations and location on the device?

Asked by: cydh
The basins for the Ontario and Quebec codes are sealed after installation while the other does not have the sealing kit. The basin is designed to connect to the existing drainage pipe but you can dill holes to allow the underground water table to enter the basin and be evacuate out of the basin by the pump. This basin have to be install in the basement floor with the top of the basin flush to the cement floor. It can be located anywhere in the basement but have to be accessible at all time and cannot be in a cabinet.

can this basin be used with a pedestal sump pump

Asked by: Debb
Yes it can be used but you will have to cut the slot in the middle of the lid to allow the pump column and the float rod to go through it. The lid is designed for this type of pump.
