Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dewalt We are strong believers in excellent products. My husband and I have a small renovation business and we have also rebuilt 2 homes of our own. Dewalt is the way to go for us. We have never been dissapointed in the product! We are now in the middle of the renovation of our home as we speak and have used everyone of our Dewalt tools. We have used the planer for barn board from an old school house built between 1908 and 1918. It was going to be burnt down, so we decided to put a piece of history in our new home. We have not yet finished our project but we are very satisfied with the outcome of every job that has been done with a Dewalt product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from World Class Planer I've owned this planer for the past year and i have to say it is the greatest tool ever! This tool has saved me thousands of dollars, literally! I purchase rough sawn lumber directly from my local mill and with this planer i can dress any kind of wood, softwood or hardwood for a fraction of what it costs to buy finished wood. The finish this planer produces is smooth as glass and in cases where the grain is straight, i don't even have to sand at all. That saves me hours of my time and the cost of sandpaper. The other feature i love about this planer is the no hassle knife setting. No jig is required to set the knives. They go in with no fuss. They are reversable too which makes them last twice as long. I've got the folding tables for it from Dewalt which makes for perfect planing. I haven't seen this planer snipe a board once. So far i've made an entire dining room set, chest of drawers and 3 huge desks and i planed 1200 square feet of my own hardwood flooring at home. The only thing that bothers me about this planer is that Home Depot doesn't sell the replacement knives. I have to buy them from the local Dewalt service center. I highly recommend this planer to anyone who takes pride in making their own quality custom woodworking projects wether it's a piece of furniture, floor or a new front door!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not for 'Real' Hardwoods! The other reviews rave about all the benifits of this planner and for the most part I agree with the other reviews so I instead have focused on this products weeknesses. I do hardwood flooring so I was looking for a planner which was rugid enough for the shop but still portable so I could take it to the jobsite. The Dewalt seemed to ideally fit the bill. The weakness of this planner is that even on slow speed it overheats when planning 'real' hard woods like Hard Maple. Unless you give the planner time to cool between boards after about 50 board foot (6" Wide Boards) the cutter starts to overheat. It is not just the inconvience of the motor tripping out on overtemp on occassion but also the blades heat to the point of scorching the wood (which also leads to the blades prematurely loose their edge). This leads into the second problem. The blades not only can not be resharpened (this is due to the blades being custom blades made specially for this planer with allignment holes to make blade replacement easy), but they have to be purchased from Dewalt at about $100 a set. In addition, the 'quality' of the blades is middle of the line with regards to durability and Dewalt does not offer a 'harder' blade material which would solve the problem. What I ended up doing was buying generic top of the line cutter blades (which by the way only cost $45 per set) , then using the original blades as a template drilled allignment holes BUT this is not something that I would suggest everyone try as the hardened steel of better blades is VERY VERY difficult to drill... a task not recommended unless you know what you are doing. This 'problem' is avoided if you connect the unit up to a high CFM blower (in the shop I have a 1200 CFM dust collection system) which by increasing the airflow helps to cool the unit BUT this defeats the best feature of this unit... the built in dust collection blower. I have also used the Ridgid and have never found overheating to be a problem PLUS the Ridged uses generic blades (i.e. no allignment holes) so you can use better blades without any problems. Too bad the Ridgid is not designed to be more portable. To be fair, this is only a problem when working extremely hard woods. I did not experience it with softer woods including oak and walnut. Even with extremely hard woods when the weather was cooler (below about 16C like it is in the spring and fall) I found the overheating to be far less of a problem (it is also less of a problem with better blades which by staying sharper longer generate less heat).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just brought one Excellent machine...the only disappointing thing was home depot did not have the extension tables. I used the planner to make my cedar fence...I wanted a smooth surface and was not disappointed...saved me hours of sanding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this planer. I bought this planer to replace my old Delta planer. I'm very happy with this product. I particularly like the 2 speeds as well as the fact that there are thickness stops at standard dimensions like 1", 3/4", 1/2", 1/4". I have it hooked up to my dust collector, and because the planer's blower is so powerful, I don't turn the dust collector on... this works like a champ. Dust collection is very, very good this way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful machine In the 13" planer category, this is one of the nicest machines on the market. It makes short work out of planing any hardwood. It planes very smoothly even in the high speed setting. The dust collection is excellent. Attached to a vacuum or a dust collector, there is almost no dust that escapes. It is easy to set up and use. The double edged knives are easy to remove and change when needed. Dewalt make a stand/table for this unit that is well built and well worth the money. I would recommend getting this as it makes the unit easy to move around your shop. The only things I would like is the ability to rewire it for 240 volt operation and longer in-feed and out-feed tables.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome (please read) I am pleased with this dewalt planer it works well and it deserves 4 stars hands down! Now i am giving homedepot 1 star simply because when i first got it i noticed that there was wood chips on it and in it so it was used! I contacted dewalt and asked if they sent test pieces thru and they replied that they do not, so i emailed home depot more then once and did not receive any replies from homedepot still to this day! I get covid made everyone have a good excuse but come on reply to my emails!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great heavy duty choice Weighing in at nearly 50 lbs, this compact bench top planer is a beast to wrangle. The manufacturer's advice to mount it to a coupon of plywood is great advice, although the inclusion of compatible mounting fasteners would have saved me the task of digging through my jar of disorganized machine bolts. Once up and running though, it cuts through tough lumber like butter - even rock-hard, century old black walnut. I found the addition of the optional, very sturdy folding table useful, even for small parts as it eliminates snipe. I found this to be a great all-round reliable and easy-to-use unit right out of the box. You'll need a good chip/ dust collector and some hearing protection.

It may be helpful to add a watch this product button or a notice sent when products I am interested in come on sale. I have been looking at the 13 Dewalt planer for sometime can I get it at this price when more stock comes in. Robin

Asked by: Robin
I purchased this unit and it has performed reasonably well. Do not push the depth of cut to much, I did and I blew up the motor. It took 6 weeks to get parts as they don't sell the motor as a whole. Change the knives out if the motor labors at all. I don't think this unit will go on sale too often, they don't sell many of them

Can the DW735 Thickness Planer be used safely and functionally on a dedicated 15 amp circuit/plug?

It can definitely work on a dedicated 15 amp circuit. Make sure that it’s the only thing on the circuit when in use.

why is the bed so hard to move up and down all of a sudden.Need to turn wheel with two hands

Asked by: bobr
We appreciate your question. We're sorry to hear the DW735 is not moving up and down with ease. The unit requires maintenance. Keep the table clean and free from oil, grease, and pitch. Treat the table with paste wax to help maintain its smooth finish. We also recommend to blow dirt and dust out. If all has been done there must be some internal issues. If this is the case please contact us at wecare@sbdinc.com and reference case 13019179 for further assistance. Thank you, Deeris
