Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Saw I purchased this saw to speed up the process of retrimming the interior of our house. A miter box just wasn't doing it fast enough (or precise enough for my taste, but I know that's my impatience with my skill level). If you can do geometry, you can use this saw. Get a new blade for it, as the stock one started chipping out the finish on my baseboards after one room. I replaced it with a Diablo blade, and this thing is a beast now. I mounted mine on a Ridgid portable rolling stand instead of the DeWalt stand because price. Just as good. Excellent saw for home DIY enthusiast and wood fabricators.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality saw!! I'm just a DIY guy and I enjoy quality! I purchased this a year ago with the bonus collapsible stand and have used it many times from cutting trim and crown to normal lumber. The 60T fine blade that comes with it produces a nice smooth cut. I also purchased an 80T blade for more precise work. The locking mechanism for the angles is nice and precise. The dust bag works well but still isn't mess free. I'm not too big on the light, I would of rather seen a laser; but it's still a good guide. Overall its a great addition to my tools and I recommend this to anyone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply the best! I am a beginner and this is my first miter saw but when I use this machine I feel like a pro cause it's so easy to use, so accurate just make me want to do different project one after another. And it came with free Dewalt stand. I love this miter saw!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Saw As best I can tell the blade somehow came into contact with the plastic shield underneath the blade insert, kicked up, and broke the rear guard in the process. To be clear, in order for this to have happened, the blade would have had to come into contact with a part of the saw itself. To confirm this I tested the saw with the power off by pulling it down to its lowest position. I then put some force on the handle to see if I could make the blade touch the plastic guard again. I could not. In the end, my theory remains just a theory and I have to chalk this up to being some sort of fluke. Now i have to search the part number to order one because if will be broken to get a replacement

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great saw, amazing cross cut positioning system I got this saw to replace my previous saw which was also a 12 inch double bevel saw. The power on this one seems much better. The shadow guide for lining up your cuts works amazingly well. Way better than any laser system I have used. Saw arrived ready to go. Accurate, no need for any adjustments. Smaller foot print for the saw base than many which I like. Only downside is the sliding mechanism which means if this is mounted on a work bench it has to be quite far from the wall. Dust collection is not great but no miter saw really is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Contractor's Work Horse We're a small but busy company. We are strong believers in "The right tool for the Job" makes a difference. This tool has been the hub and work horse on all our sites for the past 4 years and it's still going! We've used it for every type of lumber hard and soft, composite decking, aluminum, copper, PVC and ABS pipes, siding and even a 2 measuring tapes... We've also used it for metal studs and aluminum door frames in commercial renovations, It's been used and abused by careless tradesmen and subs, it's been tossed in back of trucks and trailers, it's been left out in the rain & snow and blistering heatwaves. Other then blades, all it ever needed was a new pair of brushes... This tool changed the image my guys & I had about DeWalt tools, made us believers in their "GUARANTEED TOUGH" slogan. We strongly recommend this tool for contractors and homeowners.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not 16 inch! They've changed the design! We just bought this and the back fence no longer has the holes to construct a base to make it 16" cross cut. The description (even on Dewalt's site) says "Back-fence design cuts up to 2 x 16" And the one on display was also the old design (with holes in the fence). You can also see in the pictures on this site, the holes in the back fence. But after we set it all up on the stand, we realized that the holes weren't there and the box only says 14 inch. Very disappointing! The 16" capacity is what sold us on the saw. We went in and spoke with the store and will be returning it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DEWALT 15 Amp 12" Double Bevel Sliding Miter Saw The saw is excellent quality and capable of perfect precision miter cuts. It does everything I was expecting of a pro-quality tool. We are using it for the miter cuts needed to replace all of the baseboards in our house. My only comment is that the lock lever in the trigger switch can be a bit of a problem for those of us who are left-handed. I have to push the lock lever to the left using the smallest finger of my left hand (right handers get to use their right index finger which is much stronger). As a result, I find I am having to learn to use the saw right-handed.

Will this saw cut 1x8 baseboards?

Asked by: Newbie
Yes, 1x8 are easy, because of the sliding action. I suggest using a fine tooth blade, such as an 80T, which you can purchase at Home Depot  This saw has far exceeded my expectations.

What is the difference between this saw and the one selling for $499.  Both seem to be the same.

Asked by: Trick
The difference between the DW780 and 779 is the 780 has the xps light system on it. It's an led light that casts a shadow of the blade on what your cutting

Does this saw have a blade brake, to stop blade immediately after trigger release? I want this in a saw, as I have always had one and its a safety must for me.

Asked by: RedDodge
The DWS780 does have an electric break. The blade will stop within 5 secs of trigger release or if wood binds up/shifts.
