It took more that eight days to get a response, when Ecobee consider acceptable (they state “try to respond in 48 hours”). They used to be good in the support area. I have purchased 14 of the Ecobee 3 and they are still working. Unfortunately they send stats that may not Be quite accurate, but… When you are talking about a thermostat in the middle of winter would you accept an eight day response? Think carefully.

It's pretty much the same thing except for the Alexa part, which is more hit and miss than anything. Don't care for the eco+ part that makes this thermostat more like a Nest. If I wanted a Nest that's what I would have bought. Overall still the best thermostat with the new SmartSensor that every better than the old remote sensor (which still work with this thermostat).

Setting up the remote sensor was just a little confusing because those instructions aren't included in the setup guide that comes with the thermostat. It's been installed for about a month now, and I'm very happy with it

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK Product But Didn't Research Enough After spending 2 days pulling 18/5 thermostat cable (my choice, didn't want to use the 4 cable multiplexer/adapter that comes with the product but which seems like a life saver if your house does not have good access for cable pulls) and successfully installing the Ecobee Smart Thermostat along with 5 room sensors for our 5 level side split, I find out the gd sensors don't have the ability to read humidity, only the thermostat does. I should definitely have researched better but, hey Ecobee, temperature is not the only factor in room comfort! I will be leaving the 18/5 cable in place but am contemplating foregoing use of the 5th and ironically named common wire and taking back around $700 of Ecobee gear that doesn't really do what I want. At $89 plus tax per sensor I want relative humidity as well as temperature information since RH is a huge issue for respiratory comfort in the winter and overall comfort in the summer. The product is otherwise pretty decent but my failure to research better means it's not really worth the money for me.

Can I use this with a boiler?

Yes. But it's always best to go on the ecobee website and perform the ecobee compatibility test. It'll ask about your current thermostat wiring style and let you know what you need for wiring up this thermo stat.

I'm looking for a thermostat that will allow remote control etc, but in addition i want it to send me an alert via email if/when the temperature goes outside a set range, such as when the furnace goes out. Can this thermostat do this?

My IPhone provides excellent remote control of our HVAC system.  Ecobee sends reminders such as filter changes to your email address as well as alerts that you program such as low or high temperature. You do this by logging into the Ecobee website. Alexa also answers your questions, plays music and gives the current weather.  We are very pleased with the product and the additional room sensors that we installed throughout the house.

Does this thermostat work on Hydronic in floor heat with a boiler?

Ecobee thermostats operate on 24 V and my Ecobee Smart with voice only controls one zone.  Check the voltage that controls your Hydronic boiler.

Can you control the furnace fan to run continuously on a preselected speed if desired? I currently have a Nest Learning Thermostat but can only run the fan on a 24hr max schedule then I must manually repeat the fan to run schedule again. Thank you.

The Smartthermostat allows you to choose the minimum number of minutes the fan will run during every hour.  I have mine set to run 30 minutes and that helps with stratification in our back split during both heating and cooling. Adjust fan speed at furnace.
