Sisal is a hard natural fibre similar to Manila. Sisal has a lower strength-to-weight ratio when compared to Manila. Sisal can be easily damaged by moisture, ultraviolet (UV) light, and many common chemicals. It is resistant to salt water and is often found in the forms of small twines and cords. Sisal is an excellent option for medium duty use on indoor plants, in the garden, for crafts and for package bundling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used to refurbish cat condo Used this to replace the sisal on our cat condo that had become completely shredded. Decided it was better to keep the condo out of the landfill if we could and chose this because it was described as natural. Some sisal is treated with chemicals so unhealthy for pets. The 3/8 inch turned out to be the exact size of the sisal we were replacing. Looks really good and our cat is very happy. Altogether a great decision.

Is this safe for pets or not? The other Q&A answer from 6 years ago says the rope isn't treated with any harmful chemicals, but there's also a "Ben-Mor Product Expert" 3 years ago in the reviews saying that the rope is treated with an oil and not pet-safe

Hello Riley, the sisal twine is treated with linen softening oil and it is made for garden, household, and packaging applications. The sisal twine is not recommended for pets.
