Rated 2 out of 5 by from Doesn't work over 40" I purchased this closet rod for a 42" wide closet, however once installed, it droops in the middle and isn't functional for hanging anything from. This closet rod should be rated 30-38" max. Anything beyond that length causes the rod to droop too much. I will be returning this item and buying a heavier duty product.

What is the purpose of the protrusion at the top of the plastic installation bracket?

Hi, Thank you for this question. The purpose of the hook on the end is to keep hangers from sliding off if being used in conjunction with a closet bracket, and for wall mounting, if flush with the wall.
