Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst quality doors I have ever used Having been a certified carpenter for over 40 years I decided to try the Home Depot prehung doors. These are by far the worst prehung doors I have ever seen. The lockset hole is drilled 1/8" smaller than it should be, (making lockset installation a pain with chiselwork), the hinges are very poorly fit, the doors are not beveled on the leading edge and in general are poorly hung. I had so repair and refit each door. Wish I could get my money back. The doors are also made with MDF edges. Whoever is building these doors has no idea what they are doing. Spend the 20.00 more and buy properly made doors with real wood edges.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Quality Purchased two of these for a rental suite. Poor quality and difficult to install - At least half of the hinge screws arrived pre-stripped and loose - Recesses for hinges were of varying depth (some hinges were flush, other sitting proud) - One door had a nail shot through the jamb at the top connection. - Frame is only 3/16 larger than the width of the door at the top. With the above issues causing alignment issues it was almost impossible to install the door so it would properly close without hitting the jamb. I would have been better off buying a slab and building a frame (or using a frame kit) than spending hours trying to get these installed. They do look nice and function as a door once installed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Appallingly poor manufacturing! I was not getting a consistent reveal or swing no mater how much shimming or cursing was involved. So after a fustrating day of trying to hang the first of three (3) doors I purchased, I decided to do a quality check on all three (3) doors. Here is the litany of problems with these doors: a) out of nine (9) total hinges on the three (3) doors ONLY two (2) were drilled properly! b) the top hinge had pulled out of two (2) of the doors because the hinge screws are all of 1/2" long! Note that these are 35 lb. doors! c) two doors had out of square frames because they couldn't bother to properly seat the crown staples so the header was separating from the jambs! Masonite is such a hopeless manufacturer that they still have not adopted self centering drill bits.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for and these are cheap. Paper thin, not straight. The frames don't line up very well in their corners and the hinge slots aren't made perfectly to fit the hinges. They work but they don't feel good. Wouldn't want these as doors that get used a lot.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What garbage This door costs maybe $50 to manufacture, 90% of it is MDF (aka pressed cardboard) and even the jambs, which are wood have gaps in the corners. One of the doors does not close freely and requires a slight push. It came well packaged but why spend so much on packaging when the door itself in not worth it? On top of everything the handles are lower than the rest of the doors in the house. The whole thing screams we do not care about quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Way quieter! Replaces all my door with these. Way quieter. Solid closing, no resonance, absorbs sound. Not sure what the other reviewer was commenting on.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Door not blocking sound at all Do not buy this product. A hollow door is as good and cheaper, and blocks sound to the same degree as this product. Home Depot should stop carrying this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad quality Door frame had a machining error with a manufacturing nail sticking straight through the top of the frame. Did not notice until installed, and is impossible to remove. Waste of money and whole frame will have to be removed and reinstalled.

What is width of the outside frame of a 30" door? I know it is around 31 1/2", but I'd like to know more precisely.

Asked by: GMR1959
it doesnt need to be that precise....the rough opening is just that , a rough opening, you will need tapered shims to make it solid....once i made the rough opening a light press fit...not a good idea....the bigger the better to a point especially height wise, the trim will cover the gap
