I've worked on 10 million dollar machines and $200 cars, so I know what to expect from the entire spectrum of fasteners. These carriage bolts are garbage. I purchased a pack of 50 and _many_ of them do no fit the 1/4-20 nuts I purchased (5026-214). At first I thought the galvanized coating made the threads a bit gritty, but no, even with a socket wrench the nuts and bolts simply do not come together without having to muscle them on. I shouldn't need 1ft of leverage to tighten 1/4-20 bolts, They should come together using only fingers. I'm certain that all of the bolts are indeed 1/4-20s. There appears to be an inconsistency in the threads or a major problem with the HDG coating. I thought paulin made decent fasteners. Where is the quality control?

You can use a 1/4 nut and washer but it does need to be hot dipped galvanized
