Rated 5 out of 5 by from Welcome purchase. Easy setup and installation. Pegs for the adjusting blocker panels are minimal, but they work as long as you don't lose or break one. More info on the two drain ports would be useful. Wireless installation seems simple enough (I really should actually finish that). Not too noisy, but you do know it's working. Performance is very good. It kept the space it was in (~700SF) safely under 30 when outside was over 40. Mission accomplished. I'm glad I got the bigger one. It kept us and our pets sane! It suffers the same limitation as all single-pipe portables, where the air blown out is replaced by hot air coming in somewhere, but it worked very well at keeping that one space/floor cool.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well I bought this a few weeks back to cool a hot south facing upstairs bedroom. It is only 120 square feet but the unit has fit my needs perfectly it brings the room temperature from 28*C to 21.5*C in about 2.5 hours and will maintain that temperature well. It is a little on the loud side for sleeping so I use it to cool the room further right before bed. Overall, would recommend for a upstairs bedroom under 250 square feet.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NO PARTS AVAILABLE ANYWHERE !!! I bought this a/c two years ago. I need a replacement filter part. Toshiba no longer makes appliances and Midea forwards you to Encompass who forwards you to Reliable Parts who don't carry Toshiba parts. Guess Home Depot bought up discontinued Toshiba units and now don't care about customers.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hose not cut properly -- heat leaks into room Bought this a week ago. Wondered why our room didnt seem to be cooling properly, noticed the hose that came with it was not cut properly and has a 3 inch hole near the seam where it isn't fixed into the plastic fitting properly. You can clearly see its a result of shoddy worksmanship as it's got rough edging. Unfortunately we don't drive so I have no way to exchange or return it, so I've had to just use a piece of cloth to seal off the hole. Very disappointing to have the cheapest part of a $400 machine pass quality control with such a glaring issue. Blows cold air, out the front, would be a decent little unit if it worked properly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Trash Air Conditioner Bought this air con almost a year ago. Our warranty will be voided soon. The first year it worked for 2 months, we packed it properly however this year during the heatwave it didnt help at all, it didn't work, didnt drain, it would beep, show a 8.8 error but the manual didn't have troubleshooting for that. Now we're out $400. DONT BUY.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Returned a/c they sold me Bought the toshiba 8000 btu May30 but didn’t remove from the box until couple wks later because I was waiting for help to install in the sliders in the window because I cannot stand/bend for long due to back issues. When I first opened the box everything looks neat but when I took everything out the first thing I noticed a crack on the unit and the remote control was taken out of the plastic and already had the batteries inside, pages of manual was crumpled maybe from been wet, one bolt was missing I only saw 2 the manual said it should be 3 and the foam seal was cut. The A/C works but very noisy but there’s a weird sound coming from it hard to explain. But what I don’t understand is why would Home Depot sell something at full price that was already used and returned by someone else during covid-19 not cool

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY IF YOU LIVE IN AN APARTMENT IN MONTREAL I bought this unit 11 months ago, and it worked great last summer. This year, the unit stops cooling and gives a P1 error requiring me to drain the pan every 15 minutes. This air conditioner will not cool unless it is constantly supervised. I have called Toshiba (case 111095313), and they told me that this is normal when the humidity is high, and that there is nothing they can do. They also told me that they are getting a large number of complaints about this issue, but that in all cases they think the unit is working normally. If this problem had started happening in the first 180 days after purchase, I would have returned it to Home Depot. I am very angry with both Toshiba and Home Depot for selling this unit as suitable for apartment use, when really seems like it's only suitable to use in an unfinished basement.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Buzzing noise I bought this unit today, and I am pleased with every aspect of it, besides a noise its making. The fan is loud, which I expected, but after setting it up and choosing cool mode, it makes a horrible buzzing/vibrating sound. I cleaned the filters, exhaust hose, and made sure nothing that attaches was loose. It is on level ground. And I only hear the noise when it is in 'cool' mode, fan and dehumidifying mode don't produce this horrific noise. I am disappointed as I love everything else about this unit and don't want to return it, but I absolutely cannot deal with this noise.

Does this unit need to be drained in ac mode? And if so, is there a bucket? Would be using in a living room, or bedroom, so dont really have access to a drain.

Asked by: Moorhoub
Hi Moorhoub. We appreciate you taking the time to ask about the Toshiba 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner RAC-PD1213CWRC. A bucket is not normally needed. If humidity in your area is high, the Base Pan condensate can be drained into a bucket (if needed). In areas with high humidity, we recommend connecting the Upper Drain outlet to a continuous drain. The Base Pan functions to collect excess condensate and will display a "P1" message when draining is needed. Have a great day! Toshiba Customer Care. (BBB A+ Accredited Business)

does it fit a window which is 16" width

Asked by: deny
Yes. The only part that fits in the opening is the vent plate with the outlet hole and adapter. It has 3 sections that can be combined to fill a long narrow opening about (from memory) 54" high by (from memory) maybe 8" wide. For a casement window that wide, you'd cut one of the pieces short.

When operating cool mode, does the unit generate water and would the drainage there be required? If yes, is it the top or bottom one?

Asked by: Amadu
The moisture is expelled out of the exhaust hose. It is "self_evaporating". Ther3 is a drain port at the bottom back of the unit but I don't use it except to drain it at the end of the season.

What is the minimum window width requirement to be able to use this? Trying to determine if my bedroom window opening is wide enough.

Asked by: RMT63
It is tucked away just now but what I can say is you know that you need to vent it out the window and the vent hole is about say 10 in / 25 cm if the plastic piece is too long for your bedroom Home Depot would sell you a small saw that would cut plastic and in a few minutes you are done. If your window is older or your cutting skills poor there is supplied foam to help seal the opening. It worked well.

Could you tell me what the noise level is for the to shiva 8000 BTU portable AC unit?

Asked by: Angie
I do not have a decible meter but I can tell you it forsure sounds much louder then 60db. No offense to the toshiba rep there but these ones do cause enough noise to not hear a tv at a reasonable volume 5ft away from me. My other three portables are well within reason on noise levels compared to this one. If your sensitive to high pitch noises this will drive you up the wall.
