[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This tool is built solid with all metal construction.Soon as you pick it up you can feel it. Because of the thin blade design, 0.03/ 1/32 inches, its sure to capture fine contours and details. Its very simple to use too. Just place and push the back of it on a flat surface and then push the front firmly against whatever contour or pattern you want to capture. Now you'll have the outline to trace on to your material to cutout. It's that easy. The blades are 0.03 or 1/32 inches or 0.85 mm. thick and can reach to a depth of 1.8 or 1 13/16 inches or 47 mm. And piece up to 6 inches wide!

Rated 5 de 5 de par Great Invention [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have wanted one of these since I laid the tile squares in my father's house. He laid out a line to keep me on the square and let me lay the tile. I had problems with the door ways because some wouldn't slide under the door frames and had to call him from the work he was doing to help me. If I had one of these, I wouldn't have had to call him away from his work. It is so easy to slide this up to the area you need to fit and then lay it on the piece to be fitted, mark it and cut it. If you need to mark on bottom side turn both the piece and the contour gauge over then mark.

Rated 4 de 5 de par MAXIMUM DEPTH 1-1/4" This Empire 6" Contour Gauge model 2574 has nice thin, strong & rigid metal teeth, no lock but good tension and holds the shape. But, the stated depth you can measure is inaccurate. The Product Details state, "3-1⁄4 in. probe length will read a 1-7⁄8 in. maximum pattern depth." The total length of each tooth is indeed 3-1/4", but the bar in the middle is about 1-7/16" wide, and when the teeth on one side are all the way out, they leave about 5/8" sticking out on the "other" side, and as far as I can measure, the MAXIMUM DEPTH YOU CAN ACTUALLY MEASURE IS 1-1/4". (My dog ate the other 1/16", apparently.) There's nothing wrong with this, but you should know in case what you have is deeper than this.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Pins fall out The pins fell out on the first measurement. This appears to be because there is nothing stopping the pin from sliding completely through the side opposite what is being measured. However, it is extremely common for there to be a 90 degree portion of any measurement, which means the pin will go all the way through (recessed) - representing no contour! This device does not appear to support 90 degrees which is baffling, the pins just fall out. I ended up using a bent sheet of paper to trace a line, which was far more effective. This purchase was regrettably as waste of money.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Buy this contour gauge - it is reasonably well built, good quality, works well and has a great price. I use contour gauges for measuring contours of guitar necks and other guitar pieces found in the construction of an acoustic or classical guitar. This contour gauge is a great buy, excellent value and does the job. I would have give it 5 stars but since I use it on/around delicate wood I have to be careful since the gauge cross bars are steel but the ends of the individual cross bars are relatively smooth and are not jagged or burred. Still, I gave their ends a light sanding to make them a bit smoother. Of course if you can, put some tape over the wood and be careful!

Rated 2 de 5 de par Tricky out of box I thought a metal contour gage would out-last the plastic versions, but this particular profiler has issues. It works, but the pins can slide out of perpendicular making it difficult to get a good contour on molding. Also, the topmost and bottommost pins do not move, making it difficult to use. It works, just not well.
