Rated 3 de 5 de par Gila Platinum It’s not an easy project and I like things clean and neat on a project , purchased the Platinum for it is the only one recommend for gas filed dual pane windows, I did 8 windows and wanted the glare and heat control, to do the windows properly put a side 4 hours plus for 3 windows 30 x 60 split windows, a couple of larger windows is more time, again it’s not an easy job !!!! you have to make sure the windows are very clean with a lint free cloth, the area your cutting the material as well, make sure u mist it as you peel it, and I got a few marks in the film on a few windows from pulling it back as it curls when attaching to window harder job on your own that’s for sure !!!!hope it lasts long for I don’t want to replace it

Rated 4 de 5 de par Helps, but tricky to apply I purchased two roles of this film online. I also checked out the Gila website to see how to apply it first, it says you need the application solution which is not sold online or in stores in Canada. Instead they suggest you use 1/4 tsp no tears shampoo with a quart of water, so I did that. There is a noticeable difference in the temperature of my room and the color is not too dark at all. Applying was tricky though, even with two people. It did bubble quite a bit and still has a few that I couldn't squeegee out.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Window Film = Wonderful This is a great product! When I came back from work the next day after placing the film, my bedroom (where I put the product) which faces south and is on the top floor was a good 5-10 degrees cooler than it usually is on a nice sunny day. I've been in my place for three years now and I regret that I never did this sooner, it also would have saved my curtains from fading! The other reason I got this product was so I could finally hang up some original artwork and not worry about them fading too. Lessons learned: 1) You can save some money by using a bit of baby shampoo (maybe even dish soap) mixed with water in the sprayer instead of their premix. 2) Two people to help remove the backing film or a big enough flat surface to work on. 3) Don't be afraid of using alot of the spray mixture (on BOTH sides of film as well as the window!) 4) Have enough razors, they dull fast with this stuff. 5) Have a good straight edge (not too long or short) if you need to do a seam. 6) Remove obstuctions around the window frame first , ie. window locks, blinds (pull cords), etc. Overall I had a positive experience and will do it again on other windows in my home.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Installation challenging but product is effective It's definitely a challenge installing this material on your own. The film is so light that it will curl onto itself with the slightest breeze and is easily damaged. Pre-cut squares in a few standard window sizes/lengths (cutting excess off once installed is easier than cutting before installed) would have been a nice option... the performance of the product once installed seems excellent. Although I never quite got rid of all bubbles. Install with a buddy if possible.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Appreciate how it cuts the glare. I am very pleased with the product. I have some windows facing directly west, and the sun just pours in during the late afternoon / early eveining, heating up the house. This window film really does cut the heat, and best of all, I really appreciate just how much it cuts the glare. It makes it so much easier on the eyes. I installed this film entirely on my own.- you just have to go slowly and not skip any steps, and then there are no problems.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Good, but only the smallest sheet size available This is Home Depot's largest size available for Platinum. Wish that Home Depot had the connections to obtain the 3' x 15' or even better the 4' X 15' sheet that Gila offers. This would have cut my costs to about 25% of purchasing only the 3' x 6.5'. That being said, it would have been much more difficult trying to cut up the 4' wide sheet. I used an online cutting list calculator to help lay out 20 south-facing windows. Used the 1/4 tsp of tear-free shampoo to 1L of water application solution and had a rubber squeegee already handy. Using plenty of solution on the window and BOTH sides of the film proved the best results. I did it all with one person, but 2 people would have reduced the problems encountered and sped up the cutting and application times. On average it took me about 1 hour per window (clean, cut, apply). Previous recorded high temperature in the house was 50C 3' from the windows, with fading of furniture and upholstery also being a problem. I am sure that this will stop the fading. The entire house only increased by 5C instead of the usual 15C the last couple of days. Waiting for a heat-wave to determine how close to the 50C will be reached.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Too early to tell how effective this product is. I applied this product to 3 windows (36" by 52"). I haven't gone through a summer since installing the film so I can't say how effective it is. Applying the product is not as easy as it may seem - particularly on large windows. The film is awkward to handle (especially for one person) and obtaining a completely wrinkle-free application is quite the challenge. And, if you're not very careful you can easily tear the film. Hope this helps.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Gila Heat Control Window Film Found this product difficult to install. I have used other products before and they were more solid than this one.

Can this film be installed on triple pane windows? How about low-e coated argon gas filled windows?

Is it a mirror type on the outside?

Posée par: Sandy
I live on the second floor of a building so I cannot say for sure it is similar to a mirror, but I cannot see through the windows from outside during the day. There is some visibility at night when a light is on inside, but it is limited.

Hello Re: Gila window film There are three types of product. Platinum Titanium and peel and cling. How do they differ. I want it for in a sunroom keep the room cooler and block the sun as much as possible on one side. Are they different quality etc

Posée par: Claudette
HI Claudette. Thanks for your inquiry. The Platinum and Titanium contain long lasting adhesive, while the Peel and Cling option can be easily removed. The 3 perform very similar but the Titanium will provide the best solar energy rejected, glare reduction from the sun.

We have old (47 yrs) sliding doors/windows facing due east here in Edmonton. I'm told by some that the strongest reflector may damage the window/seal if installed inside. Can it be installed on the outside of the glass - weathering an issue?

Posée par: Daniel S
I don't know if that is the case Daniel. I don't have any experience with the Privacy Window Film, however I did install Gila Heat Control Window Film (SKU # 1000833814) on the inside of 10 of our south facing windows last year and it made only a minimal impact on reducing heat in the rooms. We haven't noticed any damage to the window seals. Nonetheless, I believe that this product is highly over-rated.

Can you cut this when it is applied already, or do you have to cut in advance before install

Posée par: stacy
Hello Stacy and thank you for your interest in Gila Window Films. We would recommend viewing our installation videos we have available which outline the entire application process. When trimming the film, we suggest this step immediately after applying it to the window as you can use the window border as a guide.
