The first two were so good I pulled the assembly out of the ground and replaced the three new Orbit Jar top valves that I had also installed. the Orbits had cover leaks and poor control. The Rain Bird valves got less than 5 stars (I'd have done 4.5 if I could) because I did not like the feel when screwing in the coils. I could not tell when they were in correctly and was afraid I'd break the threads or housing. My biggest pleasant surprise from the Rain Bird valves was how much more pressure and flow I was getting at the sprinkler heads. I'll be buying only Rain Bird from now on.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Rainbird valve One of the best on the market, rainbird is almost always a step above other brands like orbit and hunter. There is a reason they have been around since the 30's.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Good valve, good size This valve fit nicely along with a filter/reducing psi connection into our round irrigation box. Have used this brand before and it has worked well. We use this 3/4-inch valve for our drip system to shrubs, plants, trees, and flowers.

Rated 1 de 5 de par These valves have problems shutting off I have installed a number of these valves now and I would say roughly 10-15% of them do not shut off completely. They seem to be extremely sensitive to the pressure in the line; if it isn't "just right" they stay open. I have had situations where they work properly for a while but then for some reason one of my sprinkler zones will malfunction and they stay on creating flooding and wasting water. I would not rely on these valves.

He took me to the area where the valves were and got me exactly what I needed. When I returned home I opened the packaging and found excellent and easy to follow installation instructions. Having never replaced a valve like this before, I was a bit apprehensive, but thanks to the Home Depot assistant and the thorough instructions that came with the valve, I had the old one out and the new one installed in 30 minutes. Perfect fit, works great and saved a bunch of money. Home Depot scores at the top of my choices every time. They are my number one go to store for all my home repair needs, and here is just another perfect example why. Thanks again Home Depot.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Replacement part for valve which wouldn't shut off; cleaned out old valve; returned this to store Have a system with 9 zones; these valves & solenoids work well & last a long time.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Solenoid make loud buzzing sound. The solenoid makes a loud buzzing sound. Because this is installed on a hose bib right outside the house, and is connected through copper pipe, the buzzing sound is transmitted to the house plumbing. I can hear it in the house. A solenoid that buzzes is a poorly designed solenoid. I don't expect this solenoid to last very long. When I replace it, it won't be with another Rain Bird product. Phooey on RainBird.

Pretty easy to install and seems to be working well. no reason to believe we will not get good service as the existing valve components were Rain Bird brand and were about 20 years old.

Do these valves have a postive and negative lead or are they interchangable?

interchangeable

Are these slow closing to prevent water hammering?

Posée par: jrick
I currently use 6 of these and only have 1 that makes a hammer noise as it is closing. Because of this I believe it is caused by a single one that may close a little slower than the rest.

I bought a house with a cheap Orbit valve already in place. When the valve closes, it causes a water hammer reaction in the irrigation supply pipe. I think it closes too fast. Does the rain bird close fast, and if it does, is there a way to slow it down so that it closes gradually ?
Posée par: mike
When you apply/remove power the valve opens/closes quickly. But, I did notice the small amount of hammer I had with my orbit valves was either gone or to small to notice with the rain bird valves. The flow rate seems to be higher with the Rain Bird valves. If you have a newer house with hammer issues rip out the clear flex fitting the incompetent plumbers put on toilets, under sinks, etc. and hard plumb it with copper.

When you apply current, does it opens or closes? Is the opening/closing process instantaneous or its gradual and takes a few seconds? When you apply current, it opens, you apply the same polarity current again - it closes? How do you control opening and closing? By changing polarity? Do you need to run current, when it's in closed or opened position? I've read the manual in the store and there is no information about it. Thank you.
Posée par: Makr
The valve is normally closed and functions somewhat like a regulator on SCUBA equipment. When current is applied, a solenoid instantly opens a small hole that allows pressure to bleed from behind a diaphragm to the pipe downstream of the valve. This allows water pressure upstream of the valve to push open a main seal attached to the diaphragm. When current ceases, a spring pushes a seal over the bleed hole and a smaller channel to the upstream side allows pressure to build behind the diaphragm and the value closes. From inspection of a disassembled value, I think that it opens very quickly, but closes perhaps a second or two slower. The valve will operate on DC or AC current at or around 24 volts. Polarity is unimportant.

Will this valve work for a gravity feed system running on 1 pound psi ?

Will this valve work for a gravity feed system running on 1 pound psi ?
Posée par: BigD
Rain Bird recommends a minimum pressure of 15 PSI for proper operation (opening and closing) of the valve. Hope this helps!

What pieces do I use on either end to connect to my water source and to connect to my 1/2 tubing to my sprinklers?

Posée par: Frank
What are you connecting to? Is it a spigot or are you connecting to a solid copper or PVC tubing? Is your line to the sprinkler head PVC tubing or flexible tubing? There are 3/4 to / reducers of all kinds available. You could also buy the RB 1/2" sprinkler heads instead of the 3/4"
