Rated 1 de 5 de par No dip tube Bought this tank brand new from home depot and had it installed. System would run out of hot water within minutes of having a shower and did not have capacity to fill a small bathtub despite having over 63 gallons at 140F . I disassembled the cold water intake and checked the tank only up find that there was no dip tube installed from the factory - just a small 2 inch spacer - which made the cold water mix with the hot water when in use. This tank is basically useless without a dip tube installed as both cold and hot water taps are both on the top of the tank. I had to buy and install a dip tube for a brand new tank. My advice is to avoid Rheem.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Came with Broken element hi, i guess i just got unlucky and got a water heater tank that came with a broken element. Though this could happen to anyone, what I am more frustrated with is that rheem doesn't give any labor warranty on this, so they would not send any technician to repair the problem. They will send me a new part and let me repair it myself which does not make sense at all. I am really not happy with this purchase, more problems for nothing I should of just went with GIANT. Please be careful before buying Rheem product.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Very Pleased I bought this three months ago. It was very easy to install. It was located 15 feet from my breaker panel. I had 10 gauge wire on hand so decided to use it with a 20 amp double pole breaker. I installed it inline (total storage is 103 Imperial gallons of hot water) with my gas water heater that I wanted to shut off and have (I have a solar system). I run a circulation pump with hot water return lines from the furthest bathrooms. Best thing I have done. Instant hot water. Daughter and son in law and grandkids visited for a month. 7 people in the house (3 showers, dish washer and washing machine going at the same time) and never out of hot water. I am not an electrician but it was very easy to hook up. Completely installed it myself and it was easy using Pex. It has only been three months but so far very happy.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Good deal on a big tank Best deal on a larger tank. This tank is exactly the same as the next model up from Rheem that is $150 more, the only difference being this model has 3800 watt elements vs 4500 watt elements. This means the recovery time is maybe 15 minutes longer. It’s a big tank so it doesn’t matter.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Lots of hot water Well, it was a typical install and it makes a lot of hot water. Four showers back to back and it still had enough hot water to burn your bum.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Leaks when it’s brand new I bought this a couple days ago, thinking it would be easy to install. Installation went smoothly as expected but upon filling the tank I noticed it was leaking around the upper heating element, which I did not touch during the install. I called the customer support number that is in the tank. The person I spoke with offered to send a new heating element to me over the next couple days…which I would have to install myself. If I buy a new product I expect it to work correctly and not have to replace new parts myself within a day of installing it. I have promptly returned this to the store and will not be buying a Rheem product again. It was a real pain driving, moving, installing, and removing what was suppose to be a working heater.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Solid water tank Instead of waiting for a catastrophe, we bought this model with 2x 3800w elements to replace our still working 15 year old 60 gallon Rheem 612 professional hot water tank with 2x 4500W elements. We have PEX plumbing so we used 2 shark bite fittings to NPT. Needless to say, install was pretty straight forward. Took less than an hour to move into place and get all plumbing and electrical hooked up. After 3 hours we had hot water. From factory it's set to 140F and believe me, it is liquid hot magma hot! May I remind you, these are 3800w elements vs the 4500w ones in my old tank. We have little ones in the home and will set the temp a little lower to prevent scalding. The manual is well done and easy to read. Can't say anything bad about it and does what it's supposed to do. Honestly, with the lower wattage elements, it makes no difference to our family of 4. If you're constantly draining your tank then hot water recovery will obviously take longer compared to more robust 2x 4500w model...but that is why we decided to stay with a large tank rather than downsizing to a 40 gallon where completely emptying the tank of hot water may be an issue. So far after 2 loads of laundry, a large bathtub full of water and a shower, all within an hour, there was still lots of hot water for handwashing dishes! I would definitely buy again.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Avoid Rheem Avoid this product, and by extension, probably avoid all Rheem products. I had this tank professionally installed, brand new. Immediately, there were issues with the tank not providing hot water. The company that did the install was gracious enough to come check it out. They did what they could and I had hot water again. For about a week. Once again, the hot water fails, except this time there is water running down the side of the tank. After calling a couple of the pros that Rheem listed on the website, it was clear that I was going to be paying several hundred dollars to have somebody just come take a look at the tank. I called Rheem and their customer service rep walked me through identifying that there was a leak around the upper element. Clearly a manufacturing defect/quality issue. Customer service rep was great, going to get a replacement part to me next day. I then asked about who could install the new part for me and I was told that there were videos on YouTube that show how to install the part, or I could hire somebody at my own expense. When I asked why I would need to pay for installation when dealing with a brand new tank with a manufacturer's defect, they said that the warranty did not cover labor. This is obviously absurd. Through no fault of my own, I now need to pay for installation of a replacement part that was obviously faulty when I bought the unit a month ago and had installed 2 weeks ago. To not cover the cost of installation is nonsense. There is literally nothing I could have done to prevent this besides buy a different company's water tank. And that is exactly what I suggest that you do. If you want to take the gamble that your $800+ CDN purchase will turn into a $1300+ CDN purchase (original installation plus replacement), go for it. Otherwise do yourself a favor. Buy a better tank from a better manufacturer who is actually going to stand behind their problem. Essentially Rheem walked me through how to identify the problem myself and then told me to fix the problem myself. Basically this manufacturer's warranty will save me $30 by not having to buy the element myself, but the shoddy product will cost me hundreds of dollars beyond the sticker price. Add on to that not having hot water for several days and waiting for a $30 part that the professional I will hire to replace it probably has on hand anyway, and it becomes clear that the warranty basically amounts to nothing. I can't say it enough: buy your water heater from a better company.

My current tank setup is Giant EcoPeak Super Cascade, which uses 3 heating elements, requires 20amp. Can this water heater work with 20amp?

Posée par: Shom
At 3800 watts running on 240 volts, this heater will draw about 16 amps. This is well within the capability of a double 20 amp breaker. Check the electrical code for your area. Normally a breaker can run at 85% of its stated amperage. So 16 amps is only 80% of 20 amps, hence, my answer. Mine is running perfectly well on a double 20 amp breaker. A double 15 amp breaker is not adequate and dangerous since the wires connecting the breaker to the heater could overheat if the wires are only rated for 15 amps, that is, 14 gauge. Not only that, a 15 amp breaker should snap off if 16 amps is drawn from it.

In this 3800w 63 gallon hot water tank has mixed views on wiring details. The downloaded specs chart of that tank say 240v 12awg wire and a 2 pole 20amp breaker. Can the rheem tech clarify this please and thanks

Posée par: Sparko
Im dorry i disagree respectfully of course. Read the specs that come with it. The marathon 3800w specs are in better detail. Unless there was a recent code rule change, a 2 pole 20amp breaker and 12 awg wire is ideal for a 3800w hot water tank. I recommend redoing your calculations or show me your calculations, plus code rules. Thanks
