Rated 5 de 5 de par Have used roxul, while renovating my house as well as finishing my basement. Very easy to handle, doesnt flop around like fiberglass, also doesnt really pack down like fiberglass, so it makes it easier to install. It will still irritate, but not nearly as much as fiberglass (unless you have an allergy to it) It is much eaiser to cut, but make sure you use a drywall knife, or a cheap bread knife worked great for me ( dont use it for bread after lol) Half of house is fiberglass other half roxul, I can say for sure that the rooms with roxul seem less drafty, and definitely seems to block more sound. I would never go back to using fibreglass after trying this product

Rated 4 de 5 de par Installation as advertised I have done a lot of DIY insulating projects with fiberglass (pink batts) and styrofoam board styles of insulation but recently decided to try the Roxul Comfort Batt R14 insulation. Have to say, the how-to video's are bang on. Definitely use a serrated bread knife to make your cuts. If you haven't used this product before, definitely give the how-to video's a view. With a measuring tape, serrated bread knife, and a little elbow grease you can install this insulation with ease. Much easier to work with compared to pink batt insulation (in my opinion). Won't know how well it works until next winter when the temp drops to -30 again but installation was a breeze! Tip: add 1/2 or 3/4 of an inch to your measurements when you're cutting your batts to ensure a nice tight fit. I think one of the video's mentioned this but if not, that's what I did and it worked great.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Perfect Insulation Roxul is the perfect insulation for the DIY. Easy to cut, fits and holds by itself even in rafter application. Doesn't burn, doesn't absorb water and doesn't itch like pink insulation.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Excellent product, eco and health friendly My husband's son who is a contractor recommended we try this product in our home construction and I am so glad we did. I have very sensitive lungs - I start coughing when I go into a room where fibreglass has recently been installed never mind handling it myself. But I can install the Roxul myself, no problem. You'll need to treat it with more care than fibreglass because it isn't as pliable but the end result is a much better, tighter fit. It is perfect for installing in ceilings because once installed it stays where it is. I'd recommend wearing gloves and even a mask in tight areas where your face comes close to the insulation even though they tell you it's not necessary. Tiny particles do fall off but they hit the floor rather than float around in the air like fibreglass. It is more expensive than fibreglass but the fact that I can install it myself rather than have to pay someone to do it, not to mention the health benefit of not having tiny particles of glass floating around my new house is totally worth it. I can't recommend this product highly enough.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Best Insulation This insulation works easily, less of an issue with dust and skin irritation than pink fibreglass, add a 1/2" of styrofoam to put you over R24 insulation value for the home energy audit.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Pricier but worth it These were a godsend when it came to insulating a ceiling. Compressible but rigid enough to hold themselves in place between the stringers. Did the work in October and now that the cold weather is here they're much more effective than the pink batts I replaced. Very pleased!

Rated 5 de 5 de par Insulated my basement walls I used this product to insulate the stone foundation in the crawlspace of my 100 year old home...It stopped all the drafts in my basements. It is easy to work with, I used a serated knife to cut it, and cuts great. Does not cause itchyness either!! mice don't seem to like this insulation, and it does not grow mold.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Easy to use and install. Easy to use and install. I used a bread knife to cut around electrical, plumbing, angles, etc. It was used in my basement and you could hear the sound changes in the rooms once installed. There was an obvious temperature difference within hours. Great product!

Is the coverage area given here per piece or per package?

Posée par: Sherlock
Coverage is depending on the number of pieces you get in the package 2x4 walls use 3.5 inch thick by 47 x 14.5 for a 16 inch on center stud placement at R14 and so you get 12 pieces covering 56.79 square feet but 2 x 6 studs only have 8 pieces 5.5 inches thick x 47 x 14.5 for 16 inch on center walls and is R22 and covers 37.86 feet a sheet of wall board is 4x8 which is 32 square feet coverage 12 pieces fills 6 full length studs from floor to ceiling or 2 full sheet worth of space under wall board. 8 pieces will cover 1-1/3 4x8 sheets of space in a wall.

I have finished basement. But no insulation between the concrete and drywall. Can I cut a small opening on the dry wall and squeeze in the insulation?

Posée par: Silence
There are a couple of issues that may arise with attempting to try that. The first is that if any of the concrete is for exterior walls, a vapour barrier is required between the drywall and the insulation. This leads to the second point...if you were to cut a series of holes to install the insulation (and hopefully vapour barrier), you would likely create a large amount of additional work to repair those openings....and the likelihood of maintaining vapour control could be compromised....just my thoughts....Colin R.

which is the best insulation for 2x4 stud walls inside block basement?

Posée par: Boom
I've used Rock Wool exclusively and am very happy with it. Easy to cut, less irritating, less problematic to dampness. Quality product.

If I cut part of the dry and squeeze in the insulation between the concrete wall and vapor barrier behind the drywall, is it going to create problem s.

Posée par: Silence
Hi, Thank you for this question. The vendor recommends removing the drywall to gain full access to the stud framing to be able to install the R14 batts

Roxul R22 resistant to soak by water

What is the Roxul resistance to contact on water [soak] Will the product perform normally after drying on its on ?
Posée par: Anonyme
I am not an expert but I've used this product in my house and before I made up my mind here is what I found out: Because it is a rock product it does not soak up water. The water runs through it (try it yourself by running water over it). I expect the insulation quality should remain the same as before it was wet because it doesn't slump like fibreglass so the edges remain tight (providing it's properly installed. I have also been told that because of these properties it doesn't mold like fibreglass can. Still you'll need to find the source of the water and ensure that the space is properly dried out. Hope that helps.

Can you use this product in a metal Quonset garage

Posée par: Steph
There should be no reason that you couldn't use it in a metal quonset, the description 'for wood studs' is because the width of the batts allows for the 1.5" width of the studs. If you're insulating between metal framing members, be aware that you won't achieve the level of insulation that you will with wood since the steel members conduct heat much more than wood does, reducing the effectiveness of the insulation. It's generally better to insulate fully inside or outside of steel members if you can. (I am an Architectural Technologist)

is this product good for garage walls, the garage is a stand alone building. Also if its a stand alone building would a vapour barrier need to be included?

Am I reading the package description online correctly? One bale will fill in 6 cavities between a standard 2X4 constructed wall with 16 inch centres?

Posée par: Bailey
you are correct John. There are 12 batts per bundle and each batt fills the 16" width cavity and the 48" length covers half of a standard 8 foot wall. It is a great product for your insulating needs.
