I'm a DIY'er, so maybe there is some trick to using this that I'm not aware of. So far I've only tried it with 1 1/2" and 2" PVC, which is the upper limit of the tool. What I found is that's it's very difficult to get square ends. The blade does a nice job of making clean cuts, but out of probably 30 cuts, not one was straight. I ended up resorting to using my miter saw to get square cuts. Maybe having square cuts is not all that important, I'm not sure. But since this was for my pool pump I wanted to minimize perturbations of the water flow.

Rated 5 de 5 de par This is what I’ve been waiting for In absolutely love this. I was hoping that ryobi would come out with its answer to this tool by another vendor, and they finally did. As a pool builder, a clean cut is an insurance policy on a good solvent weld joint; you can but your bottom dollar so long as you keep a sharp edge your cuts will be cleaner then a new F250 on the showroom floor... and no price sticker shock either. Add in that no deburring is needed and this becomes the GoTo for the majority of cuts you will do. Any one who thinks ryobi doesnt belong on a construction site has obviously not used hand driven pipe cutters while laying in a trench for the last decade. This is a time, money, and hand muscle saver!

If you need to make a quick cut for a diy project in which the pipe serves a purpose other than to carry water your golden. If your intention is to use this to make a straight cut you are better off using a jagged rock! I went through 5 feet of 2" PVC to try and get a straight cut and did not get close, I even sharpened the blade. At the end I noticed the blade has too much play to be able to do anything straight.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The new Ryobi 18-Volt one+ Pex and PVC Shear Cutter for is designed to help users cut up pipe from 1/4inch up to 2inches in Diameter with ease over the use of a manual shear cutter. It is also part of the full 125 cordless tool system that Ryobi has put together that all use the same battery platform . So you only have one battery for all tools and one type of charger. Each tool comes with a 3 year Manufactures Warranty . This is a tool only purchase , Battery and charger are sold separately. See the vid below for a demo of the product in real life from my you tube channel .

Rated 1 de 5 de par Doesn't cut straight Have been looking for a good PVC cutting tool and came across this one. Looked sturdy and I already have the Ryobi 18V battery. I made the purchase at the store today and came home to do a few test cuts. I tried about 6 cuts on 1-1/2" Schedule 40 PVC and it just can't make a straight cut. It's off by 1/4" on every cut. 1/2" pvc not so bad. Ryobi, is this a defective unit or has it just not been field tested? VERY disappointed.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Great for PVC I bought this a couple of months ago. My cable Tv line to my house was nicked and the tv was not working right. I had put chasers under the concrete drive way and walk way made with PVC to run the cable through under the concrete. While pulling the cable through to replace, it broke and we could not cut the PVC in order to reach the cable to pull it. So, we dug a little instead of digging a big hole and used the power cutter to cut a short piece. It was quick and easy. It turned a half hour job into a 5 minute one.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Not too good for smaller dimension PVC Works guite well on larger pipe - small diameter seemed to crush easily - ordered new blade - backorder till December!

Rated 5 de 5 de par Worked very well if you want straight cuts make sure... Worked very well if you want straight cuts make sure pipe is in cutter straight and level. We had to make hundreds of partitions for the school class rooms in a hurry and used pvc pipe and plastic window cover. By hand that would have been around a thousand cuts as fast as we could make them. No one had carpal tunnels or sailor forearms 16 hours of cutting we had no problems but we did set it up stationary and we did find the safety paddle a hassle for continuous cutting. When used mobile found best to place blade on mark on pipe and let the tool be pulled up, this way tool tended to cut square and level because tool tended to square on cutter bottom before it began the cut.

Will this cut 2 inch schedule 80 pvc?

Posée par: Steve
Not the entire answer, but it easily cuts schedule 40 in 2”. Getting the correct way to handle while working the safety switch and trigger is pretty awkward.

Will it cut schedule 40 pvc?

Posée par: ArtisanWaterGardens
I bought it for that purpose and it works quite well. The Milwaukee equivalent does not.

IS THIS GOOD FOR CUTTING TREE BRANCHES / BUSHES - ETC???

Posée par: CAJE
Never tried using this for anything other then plastic pipes. I would say it would not be strong enough to cut wood.

Ok all you plumbers i have been asking roybe to mske an 18v pruning sheer for bushes. Im thinking 2” plactic pipe woukd be close to shrubs?

What do you think?
Posée par: David
I'm not going to endorse the tool for this and I imagine if used, should the tool rest break your warranty would be voided. However, I think you're on to something and I'm certain the tool can perform this quite well.

Mine cuts crooked. It's a smooth cut but angles to the right every time. The blade feels loose. Is everyone's like this or did I get a dud?

Posée par: FlaGuy
Mine cuts straight, sounds like your blade is not properly seated.

I posted this as a review but perhaps should have asked a question; looking for an answer from the Ryobi team. Have been looking for a good PVC cutting tool and came across this one. I tried about 6 cuts on 1-1/2" Schedule 40 PVC and it just can't make a straight cut. It's off by 1/4" on every cut. 1/2" pvc not so bad. I have had this Ryobi PVC cutter for some time now. I have not had an issue with the cutter being that far off on straight cuts. There is a blade release toward the front of the cutter. Check to make sure it has not been partially engaged and the blade may be only partially inserted. This could cause the cut to be that far off. I have never had any PVC cutter be exactly straight. This 18 volt cutter works better than most that I have used. If you are building something that required perfectly perpendicular cuts on the PVC, you will need to use a table saw with a high tooth count blade, a rip fence and square to get perfectly squared cuts. For plumbing you shouldn't need a perfectly straight cut. Good luck to you.
