Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solves my problem I installed a Nest Learning thermostat. Everything is wonderful...except.... it reads 3.5 degrees (Celsius) too cold. This is a problem with the unit, nothing to do with placement, cold walls, sunlight etc... after countless hours resetting to factory multiple times and on the phone with Google support (who in all honesty struggle to read their own scripts!) It suddenly dawned on me what I needed to do. I purchased this unit and paired it... easy... and...as expected, the sensor reads the correct temperature, so I simply installed this right next to my Nest and directed the Nest to work with the temp reading from the sensor. Is it an ideal solution? No...it's $50 to make a bad unit work.... but if you have helpdesk burnout, it calms your nerves considerably!

If you have a Nest thermostat, you can place these sensors in different parts of the home to get the exact temperature you want in the room/area you choose. This allowed us to make sure the babies room is the right temperature when she is sleeping and allows us to drop the heat at nighttime but ensure the upstairs does not get too cold. Currently you have the option to choose when to prioritize the heating/cooling based off your proffered sensor pre-set time blocks for morning, afternoon, evening and night. My only negative feedback is that Nest does not allow you to schedule the exact time rather you have to use their pre-set time slots but this may change in the future with a programming change. I wish I had of found this product sooner! I think the cost savings on heating/cooling after the first year or two may cover the cost of the sensors for a large home.

Combined with my Nest thermostat, I’m now able to clearly see how my whole house is heating and cooling to avoid overly warm or cold spots. Based on the simultaneous readings in each room, I’ve adjusted all my air vents so that the house has a more uniform temperature. (Or it can help to set less-used rooms to be less cool in the summer and less warm in the winter) Also, if I want to I can cool or heat the house focussing on a specific room (eg if we’re in the family room, heat the house according to the temp in that room instead of where the thermostat resides). This is a useful tool to keep specific rooms at a consistent temperature, help more efficiently heat/cool the house, and assist in fine-tuning individual room temperature.

We also have a wood stove on top of the furnace, so having a sensor in a different area keeps the entire house regulated. Further, it ends up saving us money, as the room the sensor is in heats up more quickly over night when the door is closed, keeping the furnace run shorter

Bedroom, upstairs, basement, etc. Ties in to the main Nest thermostat. You can pick to set the desired temperature based on the sensor, or schedule different temperatures. Have it run off the sensor at night, and off the thermostat in the day. Very easy to set up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TEMPERATURE CONTROL To me the nest sensor helps you control the temperature in your house by allowing you to use it as the sensor that determines when your thermostat kicks in the furnace Etc this could be handy for many reasons you're in an old home your TV Etc are running close to the thermostat which increases the heat in that area so with the temperature sensor you can move it to a different location and use it

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nest temp. Sensor I bought this sensor almost 2 years and it worked well till the battery went dead. After changing the battery it will no longer connect to my thermostat. Called help line and talked to a very helpful person but finally decided sensor was bad and no warranty so only option is buy new one. Expected it to last more than couple years but they only provide 1 year warranty maybe that is why.

I bought the Nest Temperature sensor to make sure her living area was a comfortable temperature throughout the year. It works very well: I'm able to set the temperature I want the basement to be at different times of the day and it even notified me when our furnace was running too often so I could adjust the registers.

Does it just tell you if the room is cold? or can it warm it up some how?

No, these are just sensors that relay the temp wirelessly back to your nest thermostat.
