It has a powerful 40V battery a little ackward but does a quick job. It was kept clean never leaving my garage shelf except when used and the plastic cracked. Yes broke off in pieces by the handle. The way it cut through with ease and the battery lasting longer than I could ever imagine! I also bought the blower and the 9 foot pole chainsaw like pruner, again the ease of use and the battery lasting longer than I could ever imagine. Being 59, thinking I'm 25, halfway through the job I was wishing for the battery to quit so I could. But it was still have charged. Trying to outlasted it, I was stopped by my wife so I would make my 60th birthday. :)

I really like this hedge trimmer I was skeptical first, but I really like it trims very good just like a gas trimmer but is not that hard to start, is always ready. Batttery last almost 2 hours and it charges fast. The only thing I don't like is the security feature must use both hands and I not able to reach higher shrubs.

The rotating handle makes this trimmer very easy to use when shaping bushes. My wife used it to trim the front hedges while I was busy "bush-wacking" (separate review) in the in the backyard. She loved the fact that it was cordless and lighter than our old corded trimmer. The only drawback is that it came supplied with a 2 amp/hour battery and she had to recharge 3 times before being finished. Since we have so many Ryobi 40v products already, this won't be an issue for me because we have many 4 amp/hour batteries on hand.

I was under the impression that electric tools are more powerful than battery operated models, and people have told me how much heavier battery operated products are. I was so tired of dreading the job - dragging out the extension cord, tripping over it, accidentally cutting it. I enjoy yard work and I wanted to enjoy hedge trimming, too. After much debate and reading the reviews, I took a chance on these. They were ready to use out of the box; there was no assembly required other than inserting the battery. The power left me STUNNED. This is far more powerful than my electric hedge trimmer. The ease of use cut the time of the task in half. I actually feel safer using these, too. I am so sorry that I did not buy the Ryobi 24 in. 40-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Battery Hedge Trimmer sooner.

It’s light enough for women to handle - not like the competitions that are to heavy. The quality and performance is outstanding and that is one of the reason why we’re switching all of our outdoor tools to Ryobi. Presently we have the blower and absolutely thrilled on the performance and quality of the tool. I love the ability to be able to rotate the unit as well as have a deflector. It’s absolutely great and you will not be disappointed with any of your Ryobi products.

Did get a little heavy towards the end

Hi William, Your 18V Batteries will not work with that model hedge trimmer since it operates off of a 40V Battery. There is a similar make and model on Homedepot.com. Please look up the P2660 18V Hedge Trimmer if you plan on using your 18V ONE+ Battery. -Elise

The reason the battery is sold separately is because some people already own other compatible tools with batteries. It’s an option for people that intend to use their existing batteries previously purchased with other tools/packages in order to save money, etc. so if you don’t own a compatible battery, then it would be best to purchase the tool/battery/charger combo.

Which Ryobi 40v Tool batteries will it work with? Previous model says Works with all RYOBI 40-Volt lithium-ion tools and batteries, this one DOES NOT say that so does it work with all or if not which ones will it work with. Already have a Ryobi 40v String Trimmer and Blower would like to verify batteries interchangeable or not.

From reading the other questions I understand you can’t buy replacement blades.  How do I sharpen them or do you have to send them away to be done?

I have not used it to cut it muhly or fountain grasses but I have used it on sawgrass and it worked just fine. I don't see why it wouldn't work.

The specs say the trimmer weighs 13'8 lbs, yet answers to two questions about weight say 2 lbs and 4 lbs. How much does the trimmer (with battery) weigh? Thank you.
